Multifunctional Marvel5
I bought this because I was sick of grating bits of myself into my homemade dips and coleslaw, and slicing bits of my fingers off when I wanted thin slices of any reasonable sized vegetable (forget the small stuff). I was worried that I would have to chop things into small fiddly pieces to go into the machine but that was unfounded because the funnel is large enough to accommodate 2 large whole carrots or 3 small/med ones (to give you an idea of the funnel area). It is very easy to change over the slicing/grating plates - they just push out manually by finger. The first thing I did was grate some medium-hard cheese and found the best result came from not pushing too hard on the plunger - if you do push too hard you end up with a mushy clump under the cutter disk so I suppose this is trial and error. I had absolutely no problem slicing or grating parmesan and it even managed very well with firm strawberries, bananas and kiwi fruits, which I wanted for a flan.

I found that making coleslaw just with the cutting blade in the bowl created the best texture and I also found that it was easiest if I chopped the vegetables individually transferring each to a bowl then once done I popped everything back in the mixing bowl next I then made my own mayo - I just popped the raw egg yolks, mustard powder, sugar, pepper and olive oil into the beaker popped the wand in and used the turbo button whilst slowly dragging the wand up the mixture, finally I stirred in a squeeze of lemon juice - da da homemade mayo in 15 seconds. Added chopped veg to mayo - result very thick creamy yummy coleslaw.

Mid week I made a soup of the bits and bobs left in the fridge and was happy that the stainless steel blender didn't mark my non-stick pan while blending the mixture to soup consistency.

The final test - at the weekend I bought some raw shin beef which I think is excellent for making burgers. I chopped a large raw onion which took less than 10 seconds and cooked this with some olive oil until lightly browned and transferred to a cold plate. I cut the large slice of meat into four and expected the chopping blade to struggle - no it didn't in fact it nearly turned the meat to paste! Once the onion was cool enough to handle I mixed it with the raw meat and shaped into burgers and fried. While cooking I made a quick tomatoe and chilli relish in the bowl.

After finishing each meal the parts are extremely easy to clean. I have an old-fashioned dishwasher - it's called a husband! But you can put the parts in the dishwasher (except the lid that contains the gears) if you so wish.

The final point is that this machine takes up very little space for what it does. I used to own an excellent but very large Kenwood and it ended up collecting dust in a cupboard for years and when I finally did get it out when we moved house and I had a large kitchen I then found it exceedingly heavy and cumbersome to move around. Cannot recommend this machine highly enough it is lightweight, easy to use and, at twenty pounds cheaper than anywhere else a bargain from Amazon.
