Excellent condensed source of exercises
This is a superb book considering the low price. Although anyone with reasonable martial arts skill will be familiar with some of the techniques described within the book, it is exceptionally useful to have alot of different techniques listed together in one manual. The writer starts off by detailing 14 different stretching exercises before listing the 21 exercises that increase strength. The techniques listed are more useful for snapping and jabbing motions, but do help with overall fitness, suppleness and balance. An excellent book, well worth buying simply for the fact the exercises can be performed anywhere with no special equipment (sometimes you need a chair, but thats it). The exercises are all listed clearly and concisely with easy to follow instructions and the reasoning for all the exercise listed beside each routine. To cap it all off, the author has listed different routines for Beginners, Intermediates and Advanced readers to help add structure to the training.
An excellent purchase, whatever your level
Make no mistake, this is a great book. The techniques require no martial arts knowledge, and the basic stretching exercises have become part of my daily workout. The black and white photos are of very good quality, and the instructions are simple. There are enough variations on each exercise to challenge anybody. Personally, I'm still having trouble with some of the leg exercises, but I'm sure I'll get there eventually :o). The only criticism I would have, if any, is that occasionally the text advises to adopt one particular stance, whereas the photo shows the practitioner in another, however, this is not a major criticism and the book as a whole is excellent. Well worth a look, and cheap to boot.
Not Arnie
I was dubious when buying this book, but after my first attempt I was hooked! As a martial artist the exercices are excellent as they won't build you up like Arnie. They do however harden and strengthen and you really can feel muscles move you really didn't know were there. For the money this is outrageous good value for men and women.
