Product Description

A gym rat himself and one of the world's foremost authorities in the field of muscle-building, with a specialty in neurophysiology, Chad Waterbury has developed novel training methods that run counter to many long-accepted theories and practices. Forget lifting moderate weights slowly for lots of sets and reps. Instead, Waterbury insists that the best way to get huge in a hurry is to use heavy weights and lift them quickly for fewer repetitions. The athletes and lifters he trains and the tens of thousands who read his articles on the online bodybuilding magazine "T-Nation" have been reaping the benefits. And now readers of this book can too. Designed for intermediate to advanced weightlifters, the "Men's Health Huge in a Hurry" program will enable readers to: add mass and size - as much as 10 pounds of muscle; get stronger quickly - realize a 5 percent increase in strength in the first few weeks; build power and stamina - increase their one-rep max in their core lifts by as much as 30 percent; and, lose fat fast - burn off up to 10 pounds of fat, mostly in the first few weeks. The result is a set of groundbreaking workouts that maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of training time for quick and impressive results.

Customer Reviews

Brilliant book about strength training5
I have lifted weights for about five years, and I have read several books about the subject of strength training. Huge in a Hurry (HiaH) is definitely one of the books I would highly recommend.

The book explains important training principles in an easy to understand manner, and has drastically changed the way I train. The recurring theme in the book is to lift weights fast in order to recruit as many motor units as possible. The idea then is to alternate between lifting really heavy in one session, and lifting somewhat lighter weights really fast in another.

Another reviewer gave this book a 1-star rating and commented that the book was based on "opinions, whims & heresay." I cannot take this allegation seriously. First of all Waterbury cites several studies when discussing different training principles. Second of all most of the training plans are based on compound exercises (squat, deadlift etc). This is a training philosophy that most trainers would endorse.

I do think that this book assumes that the reader is a fairly experienced lifter. The exercise descriptions are rather short, and do not give enough information for the beginner to understand. This is a common problem with the books from the Mens Health series btw... If you are a beginner and want to follow HiaH please have an experienced coach show you how to do the exercises, especially the squat and the deadlift!

Pros about HiaH:
- plans are easy to follow and make sense
- plans are varied and challenging
- training principles brilliantly explained
- high production values

Cons:
- exercise descriptions are not very detailed (does not show common errors)
- not enough info on nutrition

In conclusion I really liked this book and learned alot from it. Most strength training books do not really give you anything new, but HiaH introduced me to several new ideas. The chapters on nutrition are seriously lacking, so you will need to buy another book on that subject if you are a beginner.

Recommended books on strength training:
Power training by Dos Remedios
Huge in a Hurry by Chad Waterbury
Starting Strength by Rippeto and Kilgore

Seriously flawed!!1
One phrase sums up the one star rating of this book:

Where's the science??

If you want a training book based on someone's opinions, whims & heresay, then you have the perfect item.

My advice: STEER CLEAR!
