Great book, wrong product details
Be aware this book is -not- 480 pages as described on product details but 122 pages for real.
The book content's is top. The only downside could be the amount of excessive big pictures. But then it makes it more easy to follow the exercises. It is highly recomendable if you are, or want to be, into electronic music.
Excellent Book
Hollin Jones' other book, Tips and Tricks with Reason, is great for explaining in detail the function of all of the devices and components within Reason.
This takes it further by building up a series of music projects in different styles to actucally produce completed tracks. The downloadable project files and Refills are also great.
Highly recommended for all wishing to learn Reason
Excellent help for learning music techniques
Following on from Hollin Jones' excellent Tips and Tricks book for Reason, comes this book which offers Reason users easy-to-follow tutorials to build up songs in the style of 8 different genres (Hip hop, Drum 'N' Bass, Dub, House, Techno, Trip Hop, Trance and Electropop). It is certainly ideal for Reason novices (like me) and intermediates, although I would imagine that those with higher levels of expertise in Reason might know many of the techniques described here in the book.
Still there are clear stages to follow through and screenshots of what should be happening on your computer to help.
The only quibble I would have is that no cover CD is included with the book. All of Hollin Jones' tutorial steps and about 60 per cent of the suggested samples (mainly for Dr Rex and the NN-XT sampler) can be downloaded from PC Publishing's own website, but although this is fairly quick to do on an average broadband connection (about 15 minutes in total for everything), nonetheless it might annoy some people without easy access to internet downloading (although I'd imagine in this rare case that you'd probably be able to strike some sort of deal with PC Publishing downloading it for you and sending a CD by post).
All in all, it is an excellent book and adds to Hollin Jones' reputation as a fine Reason tutor.
