Surprisingly tough
For some reason Coleen did not strike me as someone who would bring out a tough workout. I own a lot of excersise dvds and am always looking for new ones to vary my workouts. I was wary about this one but a friend lent it to me and I went straight out and bought a copy as it is actually pretty good.
It is split into sections
Warm up
Cardio x 3
Conditioning x 3
Abs x 3
Core x 3
Cool down
Some of the sections are very short and the whole workout takes just over an hour.
The sections are a bit annoying. I don't understand why all the cardio wasn't in one but it gives you time to sip some water so I guess it's ok. Also it would give someone who is not fit the chance to build up as you could do just one section from each title.
The cardio is fast it contains a section mostly using varities of skipping moves then boxing, then jump squats. The jump squats are tough! You do 10 reps then 9, then 8 then 7 then 6 etc to 1.
There are lots of squats and lunges in the conditioning (you will feel the burn). Also press ups and leg raises.
There are 3 abs sections first is normal sit ups, then cycles (this is short thankfully) and the final section is tough reverse sit ups.
The core section comes from pilates (plank etc) and really works it slows down the workout nicely at the end ready for the stretches in cool down.
The only reason I have given it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it feels like a long hour because it is split into so many sections and some parts are repetitive. However it is definitely a hard workout and you'll feel and see results
Excellent
I LOVE this DVD. I'm not the most easily motivated person and I get bored quickly so a long, drawn out workout is no use to me. The best thing about this workout is that its broken down into several sections, each roughly 10 minutes long - three Cardio workouts, three Conditioning (press-ups, leg raises and squats + lunges), three Abdominals, and three Core conditioning. This means not only can you choose what you want to incorporate into your workout that day (if you don't want to do the whole thing in one go every time), but there's plenty of time to take a breather in between each bit (which you'll probably need, trust me!) without breaking the rhythm of the workout.
For example, I try to do the whole thing in one go once a week which takes about an hour & 15 mins. Every other day, I mix and match one or two workouts from each section, so I'm still getting a good workout but can choose what I want to focus on that day. This means it's almost impossible to get bored with working out to this DVD, so for once I'm actually managing to stick to doing it for more than just a few times!
I noticed someone mentioned that sometimes it's hard to follow, as in some sections you aren't told what you're about to do. I didn't think this was too much of a problem, as it's easy to pick up what's happening and after the first time you'll know what to expect.
I can't really fault this DVD too much. I like Coleen, but anything she says sounds a bit scripted and annoying. Her trainer, Elise Lindsay, is fantastic though.
What I will say is that it IS very tough, especially the Conditioning section. It involves counting down from 10, then 9, then 8 etc down to one which is really hard. But the counting actually helps to motivate you to get through it all. And trust me, it's worth it!
I would recommend this DVD to anyone who wants to really tone up the lower half of the body in particular, and for those who find exercise quite boring.
Great Instruction!
This is the first fitness dvd I've ever used and I've been doing it a couple of times a week for the last month. As I was a beginner and relatively unfit I found initially that I couldn't manage some of it however I can now finish the workout and so I'm delighted (if somewhat knackered by the end of it!). The instructor is definately the best part of this dvd - she's clear and she really does motivate you. I'm beginning to really notice the effects of doing the workout and would recommend this dvd to anyone who like me was perhaps a bit sceptical of the whole celebrity fitness vid before!
