Garmin quick release bike mount and wrist strap
This is a great idea i think, specially for triathletes like me.
bike mount - great - very secure - it has never fallen off on me yet and it saves me getting a big white watch mark !! However, in a hurry - i still have trouble getting the garmin out of the clip - maybe its just a nack i havent got quite yet.
Wrist strap - FAB! all my triathlon prayers answered - i can leave the loop threaded and slip it on my wrist as i run out of transition, however i dont think this would work with a bloke with big wrists - you may have to thread and go, so to speak. It also solves the sweaty wrist interfering with the battery problem, as the strap/ mount is backed so the unit does not touch your skin.
all in all great purchase in my opinion, making the garmin even more versatile and easy to transfer between sports, specially in a race situation
Very Poor Design, Buy at you own risk!
In Contrast to another reviewer I have almost nothing positive to say about this product.
Having used it extensively throughout the 2008 season (12 short and middle distance races and an offroad duathlon).
I would have to say that this is about the single most frustrating piece of 'nearly brilliant' kit ever. My main gripes are: The strap gets caught under the wetsuit and has added valuable seconds to T1. If not worn under the wetsuit, the strap is immensely fiddly to fit at T1 or T2. The bike mount lost the unit in 2 races (Including 1 of my key races) and resulted in 1+ min delays in stopping retracing steps and refitting, and although I gave up using the bike mount after seeing my 305 bounce down any road with pot holes or man hole covers in, (all of the UK!) the final act of sabortage before I threw the kit in the bin, was when wearing the wrist unit on a MTB Duathlon, I went to note my lap times to find the 305 gone somewhere in the previous 7.5K hilly woodland terrain!
All in all an appalling product that is borderline breech of 'fit for purpose' regs!
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
Nice piece of kit
Hi
Got this at Christmas 08, and have had no real problems.
I only use this on my bike, and for running.
The tri guy from the previous report, mentioned some problems with use with a wet suit, which I could understand, but the bulk of the 305 in itself is a problem for some people.
Clipping in either the bike or the wrist mount seems extremely firm, and I could not imagine even the biggest pot hole shifting the 305 from the mount.
Wearing this for running does increase the bulk on the wrist a bit.
Also the very nature of using a Velcro fixing can present problems.
For me, excellent product, and am just about to but a second for my MTB.
Cheers
Ian
