Customer Reviews
Fun, energetic toning!
Nice snappy introduction at the start of the DVD which will be of benefit to anyone whatever your level. The instructor is full of energy and delivers an energizing routine. She is well-toned herself which is always inspiring in my opinion!
Equipment required (recommended for maximum benefit although you can improvise)
- 3 pairs of different weights: beginners are told to start with 3lbs as the lightest weight but it's really a question of trying out different weights and seeing what you can manage)
- Ankle weights (if you want to make the lower body sessions tougher)
- A workout bench or step to lie on (not essential and you can do without)
- A chair
You get two DVDs in the set consisting of:
2x 20 minute upper body sessions
2x 20 minute lower body sessions
2x 10 minute abs/back sessions
1x 20 minute core with exercise ball session
Positives:
- You can do the workouts individually or of course mix and match which is great.
- Genuinely suitable for any level including absolute beginners.
Negatives:
- No warm-up is provided on Disc 1 although it's quite important to start strength training with a warm-up to avoid injury.
- The camera moves around a lot on Disc 1 which can be a little irritating at times - it's a lot calmer on Disc 2 though!
Effectiveness / Summary:
I found the upper body sessions to be most beneficial - particularly the Disc 1 session which incorporates a much more well-rounded routine working the entire arm using heavier weights. The lower body sessions weren't as taxing so I often prefer doing an upper and lower body session together each time I use the DVD. It's a really good DVD to buy if you are looking to tone your arms although you will benefit more if you lift the heaviest weights you can manage rather than breezing through with lighter weights. The instructor, routine and music are both quite lively. You may not like how some of the DVD is filmed so if you are looking to tone your arms, I also recommend Kelly Coffey-Meyer: 30 Minutes to Fitness: Weights [DVD] [2009] [US Import] which offers a fuss-free workout that is quieter and a great alternative if you want a change of pace to this workout.
