Manufacturer's Description
The Creative Zen V is the MP3 player for people who set the pace. Stylish in design, it has a glossy finish, with subtle color highlights and a neat rounded shape that fits comfortably in the hand. A bright color screen and Creative's famous interface make it easy to use and it supports multiple audio formats including MP3, WMA and Audible Audio. The Zen V can record straight to WMA without a PC, and it has a built-in microphone for voice notes. Playtimes up to 15 hours are supported by its rechargeable battery.

perfect little player, well worth it5
I spent hours looking for my first mp3 player, and I eventually settled on the Creative Labs Zen V 4GB. So far I have to say I LOVE it. Even for a newbie like me it was a doddle to use: a matter of minutes after hooking it up to my pc I was dragging and dropping WMA files to it. In about a day I had more or less transferred my entire music collection to it, which I still find extraordinary. Indeed, the fact I can carry all my albums around in such a small device with room to spare is just mind-blowing, a testiment to the wonders of technology! My CD player has never looked so obsolete!

I found that you didn't really have to install the bundled software; all you have to do is hook up the USB connector and XP recognises it as a Creative Zen, which must show how popular the Zen is! Then all it consists of is using the familiar folder interface in Explorer and a process of dragging and dropping. Easy!

One thing I would suggest though: buy an additional Zen-compatible charger, as I did, so you aren't limited to charging via the PC. In regards to charge times and longevity, I've only used it once, off and on, so I can't yet vouch for its reported battery life of 15 hours (I seriously doubt this is accurate, anyway). However the 6 hours it takes to charge fully is fine, since you can plug it into your pc when you're working and before you know it it's charged again. It can also charge while you are transferring music.

The only gripe I have with it so far (I've only had it a day or so) is that the manual - which is nearly an inch thick, mainly full of foreign language instructions - hardly ever touches on the many features the Zen V has. Fortunately the design is such that you can quite quickly find out what each function does, for yourself. The use, navigation of albums, sorting playlists, etc, with the "joystick" controller is intuitive and you can master it in minutes.

Overall I give the Zen V 10/10. My first impressions were that good.

    Best MP3 Player Yet5
This MP3 player not only looks good, but sounds and peforms equally well.

At 70 quid i got more wows than i would get with any ipod. It has menus playlists album art and many useful extras which i use very often. it is so tiny that it can fit in any pocket.

The batterylife is very good, and the scratch resisitant finish works very well. The Reviews below are wrong this player is the best ive had (10 overall) my whole family uses creative now.
So buy yours now. This really is a very good player!

Great player with a few minor problems4
This is an excellent little mp3 player(Creative Zen V 4GB) with lots of options and although at the beginning I had a couple of crashes, since I updated firmware from website everything has been fine so far(about 6wks).
Despite what some other reviewers have said it is possible to drag and drop your albums from Windows to the player as well as using the Creative Media Explorer software which I've found is really easy to use. It's so simple to burn your cd's straight to the player(first time I've had this on a player)just using the USB connection.
The sound quality is excellent but the supplied earphones are more the hanging-out-of-your-ear-type than in-ear-type so to get the full bass sound you'll probably want some better quality ones. Battery life is pretty good. Not sure if you will get the 15 hours stated but I would estimate you'll get at least 10 or 11 before recharging which is fine if like me you listen a couple of hours a day.
The controls are well placed on the player and are easy to use. It's easy to customise your menu screen to only show the play modes that you'll use most often. It also has some great options like the DJ mode where you can choose between album of the day/most popular/rarely heard/random play.
Another review I read somewhere also stated that when you turn player off it restarts again at the beginning of the song and not the exact point you left off(useful if for example you're 8mins into a 15min track). This was the thing that was annoying me most when I first got player but I've discovered this can be easily solved by not stopping or pausing track but just switching player off from playing position. It should then come back on at the same point.
The reasons I've only given 4 stars are that:
1)There is no mains charger supplied with the player which is ok if you are always charging from pc but useless if you are on holiday and can't access computer. I've since bought charger(about £7)and would recommend that you only buy genuine Creative charger because the unbranded one I bought first does not work and it was the same price! Be warned.
2)The display is almost impossible to see on a bright day but this can be overcome by cueing up a few albums before you go outside.
Like all players it has options that I personally will never use(photos, wallpaper, etc)and if you want radio/video options then go for the V+ but if you are looking for a compact player just to listen to music then this is a great player with good capacity. Highly recommended.
