Jonny Bealby was devastated when his fiancee, Melanie, died unexpectedly while they were travelling in Kashmir. Two years later, still heartbroken and utterly disillusioned, he took on the challenge of a lifetime. Setting out with only his motorbike for company, he began a daring and dangerous journey around the African continent in a desperate attempt to unearth some meaning in his life. Bittersweet, bold and beautifully told, Running with the Moon is a tale of true love and loss, of exploration, adventure and courage.

travel book with a twist
When one experiences tragedy in their life what do they do? Become an alcoholic? throw themselves into their work ? Cry endlessly whilst listening to their loved one's favourite songs? Not this guy, he decided to bike round Africa!
The Book has all the usual twists and turns that you would expect someone would encounter whilst riding round this vast continent. Although what sets it apart from the normal travel adventure book is the manner in which is written, it consistently features "flash backs" where the author remembers his lost wife. It also has an underlying, and subtle, theme of romance.
I would definitely recommend this book, it is easy to read and you cannot fail to connect with the author as he expresses emotions that we all feel from time to time.
Just buy it, read it, live the journey he takes you on....
Who hasnt wanted to get away from it all at one time or another? Who has the balls? Well, Jonny does, and he doesnt do things by half. What a guy!
An incredible story
In trying to exorcise the demons brought on by the tragic and untimely death of his fiancee Bealby decides to drive a motor bike the length of Africa.
His route takes him down the western countries and back up via the eastern side, a trip of 20,000kms. Such a journey inevitably throws up horrors, delights, surprises and incredible hardship. Bealby handles all with great humour, strong resolve and an unshakeable belief in his 'guardian angel'.
On one level this is simply the story of an incredible journey, but it is also the story of rediscovery, of the author finding his life again, finding reasons to believe, things to live for.
I really enjoyed this book and have already ordered his next one 'Pagan Song' as a result.
