Synopsis
Written between 1846 and 1849, Dickens wrote this biography of Jesus Christ for his children. As he wrote it for children he forbade its publication. Its first American edition was published finally in 1934 and became an immediate bestseller.
Customer Reviews
A classic tale, simply told
The Life of our Lord is one of Dickens less well known and neglected works. Yet I think it deserves a higher place in the canon of his work.
While everyone buys 'A Christmas Carol' and 'Oliver Twist' they would do well to seek out this slim yet well written tome.
It tells the story of Christ and the gospels, yet because Dickens was writing it for his own children he keeps the story simple and uses direct english.
He really brings the time alive and makes an epic story into an intimate tale. Hopefully one day it'll be included along with 'A Christmas Carol' to bring it to a wider audience but until then I urge you to consider this book for a young child interested in reading, Dickens or the Bible.
This edition presents his tale well and makes the perfect gift.
