Amazon.co.uk Review
Delivering exactly what its title promises, this celebration of stupidity was Jim Carrey's 1994 follow-up to Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask. The film pairs the rubber-faced wacky man with Jeff Daniels as the not-so-dynamic duo of Lloyd and Harry, dunderheads who come into the possession of a briefcase containing ransom money that is intended for Mob-connected kidnappers. Lauren Holly co-stars as the woman who lost the briefcase, and with whom Carrey falls in love (both in real life and as his moronic on-screen character). As Lloyd and Harry make a mad dash to return the briefcase (never aware of its contents), the bumbling buddies attract Mobsters, cops, and trouble galore. This lowbrow laugh-a-thon scores some solid hits for hilarity, but with gags involving ill-fated parakeets, buxom bimbos, and an overdose of laxatives, be prepared to put your brain--and good taste--on hold.--Jeff Shannon
DVD Description
Jim Carrey (Bruce Almighty, The Mask, Liar, Liar) and Jeff Daniels (Speed, Fly Away Home) are too lame to live – and too dense to die – as a pair of deliriously dim-witted pals on a cross-country road trip to return a briefcase full of cash to its rightful owner. Along the way they’ll confound cops, kidnappers and anyone and everyone who has the misfortune of crossing their paths in this comic caper for every idiot in the family!

Fantastic film - but what's with these DVD cuts??
I've been watching Dumb and Dumber since the 90's and cease to get tired of it's 'dumb' humour, and the wonderful gel that-is Lloyd and Harry; two city bums in desperate need of a break.
They story has already been covered many times by other reviewers so I'll skimp here and explain the 3 stars.. this DVD edition has some odd cuts. I originally owned the VHS release which had the theatrical version of this film, but this DVD is different in many scenes. Parts have been cut out, some added, some scenes made longer, and what is absolutely noticeable throughout the whole of the film is that surely 75% of the scenes are either acted or spoken differently, suggesting this may be a Directors Cut, if the editor has used different takes from the original recordings. Very odd!
Some may not be too bothered about this, but I thought i'd just point it out anyway for those wondering. I don't know why DVD companies do this - it's happend on many DVD conversions from classic films. But cut long story short... this film is excellent and I recommend it to anyone who loves Jim Carrey!
The funniest film of the 90's
I spent a lot of time in 90's watching this film and have proberbly seen it at least once a year since. Why am i writing a review now? Because after watching it last night, again... i felt compelled to. This film is brilliantly funny, Carrey and Daniels go way over the top and it works. The gags come thick and fast, trying to catch them all in one sitting is an impossibility. My fav from last night was, "One minute your eating a burger, the next your dead meat". Not the best line, but it just got me giggling. If you've not seen it, watch it. This is what your life has been missing. An all out, gross out comedy from the farrelly brothers. And yes... its much funnier then 'Theres Something about Mary", although that is also, a top film.
Sheer unadulterated comedy
From beginning to end, Dumb & Dumber is sheer hilarity. There is not a slow moment in the adventures of Harry and LLoyd, two great but incredibly unintelligent friends who decide to move to Aspen, Colorado to get out of their dead-end lives in Providence, Rhode Island. Jim Carrey delivers a side-splitting performance as Lloyd, the lovestruck limo driver who first suggested the trip to Aspen ("We got no food, we got no jobs, our pets HEADS ARE FALLIN' OFF!!"), mostly so that he can find Mary Swanson (Lauren Holly), the woman he fell in love with after he drove her to the airport in Providence.
Lloyd's and Harry's adventures on their trip are absolutely hilarious to watch, especially their run-ins with the criminals who are chasing them, trying to get the briefcase that Harry and Lloyd do not know is full of ransom cash. One of the best things about this film is that it never strays too far from reality. There is never anything presented that could not possibly happen in real life. Also, the original and strikingly funny comedy that was written for the film is great! I can't remember ever laughing this hard at a movie.
Dumb & Dumber takes a good story, adds some tear-inducing comedy, some endlessly hilarious dialogue ("I guess they're right, old people, though slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose. Don't you go dyin' on me!"), and needlessly good direction and molds one of the funniest films ever. Good for all ages, Dumb & Dumber is sheer unadulterated comedy and is destined to become a classic.
