Synopsis
In this fantasy adventure, Kain (David Carradine) is a powerful warrior skilled in the use of many weapons and available for hire when he rolls in to Yam-A-Tar. However, when he discovers two worthy opponents who are preoccupied with dominating the village's only well, Kain has to employ more subtle strategies to free the people of such tyranny and win the hand of a seductive sorceress (Maria Socas).

Nearly what I'd hoped for
My expectations for this film were low, I was not expecting a grand story of epic proportions. Yet, the film is still more restricted than I was expecting.
There are 2 tribes at war over the rule of a well and the world apparently. Yet their fortifications and dwellings are about 10metres appart!
Much has been made of the topless women in this film, and yes for pushing an hour out of the hour and fifteen minutes, toplessness is aplenty.
The score is a little annoying, and the lizard thing that the one tribe has is like something out of a kids film.

None the less, for the price it's a decent piece of entertainment.

Does exactly what it says on the tin...
My freind and i like to visit each others houses and watch 80's swords and sorcery movies together (sounds kind of funny when written down, but i assure you its not :-D) and this one certainly didnt disapoint. Its exactly what i love about the fantasy genre, eveything was there, and in some cases more so.

For instance, instead of just the usual token naked woman to bump up the rating, this film decided that every actress in the film (of which there are quite a few) should have her "fun bags" on display throughout the whole film. Which can be quite distracting during the long dialog sequences, but hey theres a silver lining to every cloud :-) Its hard not to have an ear to ear grin throughout, so i guess it works.

By no means though is this film just a low budget erotic fantasy flick. It has much more to it. The story line (so my freind tells me) is lifted straight from Yojimbo, and is the same as Fist full of dollars. So although many of you will be thinking dejavu, i'm sure this retelling of a classic story works just as well. Alot of people will pigeon hole it as a rip off but i think it was probably intended as a retelling of the story.

All in all, its alot of fun and is full of character.

Last barbarian Yojimbo standing for a fistful of dollars
Film buffs will immediately recognise the script, lifted wholesale from Yojimbo, the same that was used for Fistful of Dollars and Last Man Standing. Having noticed that, this is a pretty good fantasy retread of a very familiar story:

The man with no name enters the village and discovers two rival gangs fighting for control...

The acting is dreadful, except for Carradine's long-suffering performance as the eponymous hero. In addition, there's some Tai-Jutsu sequences in the fight scenes, which makes a change from the usual Wushu or stage-fencing routines, and fans of the Gor series will be gratified to hear one character refer to another as a worthless sleen.

The last thing about this film is that every actress spends the entire film topless, so you probably can't watch it with your girlfriend.
