Neglected classic of the western genre5
This little noticed western is, in fact, a classic of the genre. Charlton Heston, in one of his best roles, plays an aging and lonely cowboy coming to terms with his bleak future and lack of options. After saving a young widow and her son from outlaws, she offers him the chance of a settled, family life. But there's no happy ending. He leaves her, saying 'I'm a cowboy, I don't know nothing else.' Beautiful cinematography from Lucien Ballard adds to the atmosphere. A great film.
