Synopsis
Released just a few years before a similar British film, ZULU, this 1962 ladiator film depicts a tiny army of Spartan forces and their efforts to stave off an attack by Persian forces which greatly outnumbered the Spartans. Led by King Leonidis (Richard Egan), the Spartan army consisted primarily of a security force who guarded the palace. This rousing gladiator epic boasts an incredible cast including Diane Baker, Ralph Richardson, and Kieron Moore.

Great Fun
Really enjoyed watching this old classic again. While the acting maybe slightly wooden it dosent impead the fun of watching this entertaining movie, remember this film is from 1962 and the story is rousing with the 300 spartans and there allies holding off the mighty Persian army for a few days.Dont expect the special effects of the movie 300 or the sound quality but if your looking for a good old movie to watch for a couple of hours you need to get a copy of this movie well worth the price and a welcome edition to my DVD library.highly recommend.Hope short review is of help. Please check out my other reviews you might find something of interest.Cheers.
great
this is a classic if you have seen the 300 dont forget this is it, closer to the truth than that film the 300 but not as existing , no one has got the story correct yet .so you have to fly between the 2
Stilted and Theatrical
Although watching this film is a pleasant way to waste a couple of hours on a lazy Sunday afternoon, I cannot in all honesty give it more than three stars. Some of the action sequences are admirable, and the spectacle of 300 Spartans standing against an army of thousands is inspirational, but some of the acting is pretty dire.
I will be charitable and say that most of the fault lies with some fairly awful dialogue that even Olivier would have had problems with, but even having said that, David Farrar as Xerxes gives one of the most artificial and theatrical performances I have ever witnessed on screen. Only the battle scenes and the performances of Richard Egan and Ralph Richardson redeem the movie and make it worth watching.
