Half toff, half pikey, all comic! Ed Byrne is undoubtedly one of the funniest comics working today and his Different Class tour has been his most successful show ever. Lauded by critics and audiences alike, this blistering one man show takes in such diverse topics as WAGs, Goths, the class system and DVD piracy as well as frank and honest tales about Ed s upbringing, his parents and his recent nuptials. Filmed in Glasgow, the city where he started as a stand up 16 years ago, Different Class shows Byrne at the very top of his game and demonstrates why he really is in a class of his own. Extras: Fake Orgasm and In-vision Commentary with Jimmy Carr & Ed Byrne.

Wonderful
I saw this show in Aylesbury in March 2009 and absolutely loved every minute of it. Ed Byrne is a rare breed of intelligent comedian, whilst managing to be hilarious at the same time. The show is based heavily on the class system (unfortunately we did not conform to the stereotypical Aylesbury audience, as we actually live in Inverness and decided to see him there with a friend who lives nearby) and I found myself agreeing with pretty much every point he made, whilst laughing hysterically the whole time. I fell in love with him after watching the "Pedantic and Whimsical" DVD, another DVD I would highly recommend, and find it a real shame that he doesn't seem to have caught the same kind of wave of appreciation as, for example, Michael McIntyre or Lee Evans. However, saying that, I found the ambience of the show we saw was greatly improved by it NOT being a huge audience, something you would probably have to contend with when watching those two comedians.
Anyway, this DVD is on my pre-order list. I cannot fault the show I saw at all.
In a class all his own
Much to my shame, it was only a year ago i started to take notice of the genius that is Ed Byrne. After seeing him on various panel shows and being vaugely aware of him as many people are (a fact made light of in this show by Ed himself), i bought a copy of his first DVD 'Pedantic and Whimsical'. Nothing short of a masterpiece, it raised the bar for every subsequent stand up DVD i bought. None so far have even come close to matching it, but i think if any can, it'll be this one.
I saw Ed twice on the 'Different Class' tour, in October '08 and Febuary '09, (which in itself shows that his material bares repeat listenings and veiwings), and on both occasions he was on great form, despite playing two very different venues (the first show was in Pontardawe Arts centre with an audience of around 120 people, the second in St. David's hall Cardiff with an audience of around ten times that).
Ed's style is really just straight-forward observational comedy, and sometimes you can be forgiven for thinking 'oh i know where he's going with this', as some of the topics he covers are standard fare for virtually all other observational comics, but never once will you be correct in your assumptions. Byrne's genius is in the way he hits his crowd with unexpected joke after unexpected joke, and also his seemingly effortless comfort and rapport with his audience. He's an amazingly charming performer.
Ed Byrne is one of the finest stand-up comics of all time. It's a shame this is only his second DVD, but i'm glad it's available nonetheless. Different Class? Says it all...
looking forward to the 23rd!!!
Ed Byrne has been in my consciousness for three/four years now since 2006 when his first DVD came out. I still love him dearly and he keeps getting better and better! I have seen him twice on the different class tour: the first time was in Glasgow in february 2008 the beginning of the different class tour - where i met him and was partially responsible for the drunken state he was in by the end of the night! He was lovely and his jokes then were brilliant. The second time was in Edinburgh 2008, and it was even better because by then he had got married *cries* and he was joking about the ridiculousness of the process of arranging a wedding. His observations, as usual with Ed, are freakishly accurate and you can go and see him as many times as you want and the jokes never get old (partly because they keep changing all the time as the tour progresses).
long may he reign as one of the finest observational comedians of his generation! Looking forward to getting this dvd when it comes out, so im afraid people are gonna have to chase after me to the top of the queue!!
