Synopsis
Contains the titles The Pink Panther, A Shot In The Dark, The Pink Panther Strikes Again, Revenge of the Pink Panther, Trail of the Pink Panther, Return of the Pink Panther. Also includes 124 Pink Panther cartoons.
The PINK PANTHER (1963) introduces the bumbling French detective, Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers), who is put on the case to find and arrest the notorious jewel thief, the Phantom.
In A SHOT IN THE DARK, the usual hilarity ensues with Sellers and his bumbling detective Clouseau. His attempts to clear the beautiful Elke, who is charged with murder, bring about many funny situations.
In THE PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN, Clouseau's chief escapes from a mental institute to plan our bungling hero's death!
In REVENGE OF THE PINK PANTHER, an assassination attempt on Clouseau's life gets the wrong man. He uses a variety of disguises to find the criminals.
In TRAIL OF THE PINK PANTHER, the bumbling Inspector Clouseau vanishes while on the trail of the stolen Pink Panther diamond and a sexy TV News reporter investigates.
A PINK CHRISTMAS is set in 1890's New York City, where our cold and hungry hero determinedly and vainly searches for a meal - until the spirit of Christmas comes to his rescue.
In RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER, the bumbling French detective Inspector Clouseau is reluctantly called back into service by Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Herbert Lom) when someone swipes the infamous Pink Panther diamond from the museum in Lugash. The prime suspect is the smoothly aristocratic jewel thief Sir Charles Lytton (Christopher Plummer), aka the Phantom. Clouseau creates his usual comic mayhem in an assortment of European watering holes as he attempts to track down the jet-setting criminal. While Lytton, who is, on this rare occasion, innocent of the crime in question, joins in the pursuit of the real criminals to avoid arrest, his lovely wife, Claudine (Catherine Schell), leads the myopic Clouseau on a wild-goose chase. As usual, Clouseau's creative methods of deduction drive Inspector Dreyfus ever closer to the brink of insanity.

The Complete Peter Sellers Collection5
People had been complaining about the 2004 release of 'The Pink Panther Film Collection' because it didn't contain Return of the Pink Panther and had to be bought seperately. One of the reviewers then came with his solution of buying the tinned edition and putting the Return disc in with the tin and the rest of the collection. No need any more as MGM have released a box-set containing the essential Pink Panther material.

This boxset contains all 6 Peter Sellers films and all 124 cartoons (plus A Pink Christmas). However don't think that this is a complete re-packaging. All they've done is put the four previous releases together in one box(ie. The Film Collection, Return of the Pink Panther, A Pink Christmas & The Cartoon Collection). So if you already own these four releases then the only thing you gain by buying this release is a big box in which to put them all in - oh and 'A Pink Christmas' thrown in with the Cartoon Collection ie. the disc is inside the Cartoon Collection box rather than in a seperate case. It's also perhaps worth mentioning that the box itself doesn't open sideways but opens up from the top which I prefer because it makes the box look better with closed up spines. In short, this box-set contains two box-sets (Film Collection and Cartoon Collection with Pink Christmas) and a single-case DVD (Return of the Pink Panther).

So for the Film & Cartoon Collection in one VERY good-looking box, buy this one! If you already own the two box-sets and single-case Return and Pink Christmas releases - don't bother.

Technically it isn't the Complete Classic Collection because it doesn't contain the three non-Sellers films: 'Inspector Clouseau', 'Curse of the Pink Panther' and 'Son of the Pink Panther'. What's to bet MGM will in the future release the Complete Collection again with these three films in it making it frustrating for people who bought this and then the other three films seperately...

For those of you who have done this (like myself) similar type of advice to the guy mentioned at the beginning of this review can be given on how to get the other three films into this box so you have the COMPLETE collection of films in one box. What I did was put the first six discs(Pink Panther, Shot in the Dark, Inspector Clouseau, Return of the Pink Panther, Strikes Again and Revenge of the Pink Panther) into the Film Collection box, then take out the Return case and replace with a black empty case. Put the Special Features disc in this case, then put the other three discs (Trail, Curse and Son) into a CD-sized paper CD-envelope each (they're pretty easy to find in shops) and then clip the three envelopes to the other end of the case where you would usually clip an inner leaflet. Spread them out so Trail and Son are clipped to the top half and Curse is clipped to the bottom half, overlapping them chronologically. Pop that case in-between the Film and Cartoon Collection and presto!

(All you've gotta do then is to wait for a Region 2 release of The Inspector and Ant & Aardvark Cartoons and put them in with the Cartoon Collection using CD-envelopes again and you've got the Ultimate Complete Classic Collcetion...)

Classic Pink Panther DVD2
One of the DVD's - The return of the PP- does not work and only has the title sequence which was most frustrating as the children really wanted to watch it.
