Customer Reviews
Read what you're buying!
Yes this album does have a lot of songs by Snoop, Dre and 2Pac on. That's because it's a Death Row Records compilation, and those three artists have been the most successful on the Death Row roster. This would also explain why Melle Mel, Grandmaster Flash etc. aren't on here my friend - it's a Death Row Records compilation. So if you understand what you're buying (check the track listing?), this is awesome.
sadly sadly lacking
who ever put this together has never studied history. This is basically snoop, dre and 2pac. Where's the sugarhill gang, run dmc, melle mel, public enemy and all the rest. do not waste your money on this pathetic excuse
Shameless Suge Knight cash-in
As other reviewers have noticed, this album is nowhere near a complete history of hip-hop, that's because the entire album comprises of artists who are, or were at the time, on Knight's "Death Row" record label. Tupac Shakur was murdered just before he was due to leave Death Row, and all the other big names managed to leave alive, leaving Marion "Suge" Knight with no major artists other than Kurupt. This album is merely the latest in a long line of "compilation" albums released by Marion, composed almost entirely of records that he owns the rights to, hence a very cheap album to make, and free money when idiots buy it. When you have as many lawyers to pay and as little talent as Marion Knight, things like this album release are a necessity, especially as nobody in the hip-hop industry takes this man seriously, with very good reason.
