Synopsis
This is the definitive guide to Paediatrics and Child Health. It is a brand new exciting edition completely revised and updated, written by an expert team from Leeds University. The book focuses on the full development of a child from newborn all the way through to adolescence. The book is in full colour throughout, using high quality photographs and line drawings to help the reader visualise the concepts and procedures as discussed in the text. The layout is clear and well structured, with clear use of colour and design to help navigate around the topics. Each chapter commences with a 'Finding your way around' mind-map that provides a visual overview of the differential diagnosis for a symptom and highlights the common and important conditions. Learning objectives are also outlined to show medical students the knowledge, skills and attitudes they should acquire. 'At a Glance' boxes have been used throughout the text to summarise all key information on a particular topic and are designed as a rapid revision aid.

Self-assessment is covered in the form of multiple choice questions which are included in the 'Test Your Knowledge' section at the end of the book. These questions will help the students to reinforce their knowledge and enable them to identify gaps in their learning - forming an invaluable part of their revision programme. Clear, concise paediatrics4
Ideal core text, for revision, to support clinical practice, lectures and to complete problem based learning scenarios.
Spider diagrams at the beginning of each chapter, with clear aims and objectives to be completed in each chapter.
Photographs and diagrams of medical conditions and appearances are included to support the text.
The use of bright colours, bold and italic print breaks the book up into manageable and eye catching sections.
I wouldn't be without this book now!

Good with some weaknesses4
This is a paeds textbook with a different style - it approaches the subject from a problem based perspective. It's very good for learning differentials and studying for OSCE's. The notes on each topic are brief and there's no irrelevant material, making it suitable for medical students starting their paediatrics run. However the major weakness I found was the lack of depth on many topics, and especially on the management of conditions. The CD is also not that great, missing many essential features of the clinical examination. And I also found it frustrating at times at the difficulty in finding topics in the book - as it is not organised by organ system, but clusters of symptoms. For example, there's no neurological system chapter, so if you want to read about seizures you have to look up the index to find it (in the "chronic medical conditions" chapter). On the plus side, it has excellent pictures & diagrams, 'at a glance' boxes, and good directions for history taking and clinical examination in different situations.

A new and notable paediatrics textbook for medical students4
This is concise yet comprehensive reference text for paediatrics aimed at medical students. It instructs on how to approach paediatrics and contains information on all of the important paediatric conditions. The text is clear and easy to read and is supplemented by numerous full colour illustrations and photographs. The CD-ROM, which shows how to approach paediatric examination, is a welcome inclusion and differentiates this book from other textbooks such as the equally excellent Lissauer.
