Editorial Reviews
CD Description
Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, the story concerns ex-convict Jean Valjean and his efforts to start a new life and make the world a better place. The musical was written by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil and opened in 1980 in Paris for a projected eight weeks. In the event it proved popular enough to double its run and only closed because the theatre was scheduled to host another play. In 1982 theatre impressario Cameron Mackintosh engaged lyricist Herbert Kretzmer to produce an English language version and this eventually opened in London in 1985. Two years later the show opened on Broadway and earned thirteen Tony nominations, winning nine.
Customer Reviews
Electrified - not exactly what I wanted...
Yeah, this is OK, but the rendition of 'I Dreamed a Dream' is cringing. Not only does it seem to be played on a synthesizer, the guy singing makes it his own, you know, tinkering with the melody a little. Having said that, some of the tracks are very good, and the backing track works, such as with 'On my own' - a fantastic rendition.
For its price it is an absolutely bargin - but if you're looking for the original versions and willing to splash out around a tenner, this CD is not for you.
Les Miserables the London theatre orchestra & Cast
If you love Les Miserables - DONT BUY THIS - Its utter rubbish - the production sounds like its been produced and sung by pub singers ( sorry pub singers) ,I have just been to see this in London - Its an insult to pass this rubbish off as a LOndon production standard.
Hence the price I guess - I paid for a cheap copy and got rubbish - I should have known better I guess
Spend a bit more
I too made the mistake of buying this. London Theatre Orchestra and Cast is grossly misleading, it is clear from the first listen that there is no Orchestra or Cast here, just a small number of mediocre session singers and a keyboard bashing out tunes in a studio. You get what you pay for, and in this case you get very little.
