Product Description

In this vivid and humorous journey, Richardson takes us past the cliches of paella and gazpacho to tell the real story of Spain's mouth-watering food, from the typical coastal cuisine to the shepherd cooking of the interior and the chic 'urban' food of Madrid and Barcelona. Along the way he gets caught up in a fish auction and the annual pig slaughter, spends a day at El Bulli restaurant and makes a never-ending stream of new friends.

Editorial Reviews

Review
'Detail by delicious detail, he builds up a picture of a culture in which food is both religion and love affair' The Times 'A love of Spain sings from every page of this journalist's travelogue An affectionate and informative account of Spain's food culture' Waitrose Food Illustrated 'This is, first of all, a really good book about Spain, and the atmosphere of beautiful and ingenious novelty which pervades its traditional life. It is also a serious and well-informed account of its food, which reflects a country's regional variety, its history and its addiction to pleasure' Colm Toibin 'If you have been waiting for an excuse to pack your bags, head off to Spain and discover some of the lesser-known and best kept culinary and cultural secrets, A Late Dinner could not paint a more accurate, balanced and tempting picture of Spain today' Eddie Hart, owner of restaurants Fino and Barrafina

Tribune
This beautifully written book goes beyond the familiar (paella, Rioja and oranges from Seville) to the heart of the country, its culture and its food. It's a wonderful read.

All you need to kow about Spanish food5
If you love food or you love Spain then this is a fantastic book. If you love Spain and food then this the perfect book

A classic gastronomic delight!4
This book is a must for everyone who wants to find out the stories behind the regional food of Spain. This book is so well written and researched - a joy to savour each page. I am keeping this book on my bookshelf and am planning my trips to San Sebastian and the Basque country as a direct result. This work is of such high quality. Thank you Mr Richardson for such a fine book.

A pleasure to read5
This is more than just a book about food. It's a record of a cultural journey, a travel journal, an analysis of the national psyche and a relaxing, informative read.

What struck me most is that the writer is not precious about food the way so many food writers are. A real pleasure and I am so happy I chanced upon this book. I am going to look out for some of his other work next.
