Editorial Reviews

Review
"'Smooky palooki! This book is well brilliant! Andy Stanton is far too clever and funny and should be locked away in a very dark place that nobody can find.' Jeremy Strong; 'A wickedly entertaining story' Bookseller; 'Andy Stanton accumulates silliness and jokes in an irresistible, laughter-inducing romp' The Sunday Times; 'Worryingly splendid' Guardian; 'A riotous read' Sunday Express; 'Designed to tickle young funny bones' Glasgow Herald; 'Cranks up children's storytelling conventions to hilarious extremes' Jewish Chronicle."

About the Author
Andy Stanton lives in North London. He studied English at Oxford but they kicked him out. He has been a stand-up comedian, a film script reader, a cartoonist, and an NHS lackey. He has many interests, but best of all he likes Radio 4, books and music (even jazz). One day he'd like to live in New York or Berlin because he's got fantasies of bohemia. His favourite expression is 'This is what it sounds like when doves cry' and his favourite word is 'whippersnapper'. His first book You're A Bad Man, Mr Gum! won the Red House Children's Book Award and the Blue Peter Award for Most Fun Book With Pictures. David Tazzyman lives in South London with his girlfriend, Melanie, and their son, Stanley. He grew up in Leicester, studied illustration at Manchester Metropolitan University and then travelled around Asia for three years before moving to London in 1997. He likes football, cricket, biscuits, music and drawing. He dislikes celery.

Customer Reviews

Hilarious - Andy Stanton does it again.5
There is a great skill in writing children's books that don't make adults groan when their offspring say, "Can you read this one again."
I'm pleased to say that Andy Stanton has pulled it out of the bag again.
He is one of those rare authors who has a knack of writing hilarious books that appeal to adults and children. They make the whole of our family roll around laughing. This book is no exception and there have been several altercations over whose turn it is to read it (and that is just amongst the adults).
His characters and plots are off-the-wall and we constantly repeat lines from his books including, "In the olden days," said Old Granny, "It was rubbish..."

A great series to try on reluctant readers - they might just tear themselves away from the computer!

Success every time5
You just cannot go wrong with Mr. Gum. Any child age 7/8/9/10 will love Andy Stanton's books. Makes it so easy to be a favoured Aunt when you bring one of them out each birthday and Christmas. Andy Stanton needs to speed up his writing or I am soon going to run out of new books to give.

Mr Gum & the Dancing Bear5
My 9 year old Grandson enjoys all the Mr Gum Books & this one is no exception.
