Average customer review:Product Description
Perhaps the ultimate in TV comedy madness and absurdity, this cult series, which began in 1969, was conceived, written and performed by Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones. It was innovative and ground-breaking comedy which inspired many of today's writers and performers. Its sketches, songs and catchphrases are legendary: the dead parrot, the Ministry of Silly Walks, The Lumberjack Song, And Now for Something Completely Different and many more. This cassette features all the favourite sketches, including "Crunchy Frog", "The Lumberjack Song" and the "Dead Parrot" sketch.

Monty Python's first album -- Hard to find in the U.S.!
If anyone is wondering, yes, this is Monty Python's first album, originally released on BBC Records in 1970. It consists mostly of some of the best sketches from the first TV series, adapted for audio and re-performed in front of a studio audience. The audio is of studio quality, with only some inobtrusive and appropriate laughter from the audience. There is some evidence of the Pythons starting to play with the medium of records, although not nearly to the gloriously goofy extent that they would on subsequent records, once they signed with Charisma Records and had a freer hand. This also means that the packaging and notes of this album are not as off-the-wall as they would be for subsequent records. However, the recording is wonderfully hilarious, and can serve as an excellent introduction to Monty Python.
Library Music from the TV Series
Potential buyers should be aware that 'Monty Python's Flying Circus: 30 Musical Masterpieces' is *not& a collection of Python sketches, but rather an album of music from the DeWolfe music library, often plundered by the Pythons when making their classic BBC TV series. Many of these tracks have not been available elsewhere before, and so this is something of a treat for Python fans and enthusiasts of vintage library music alike. Highlights include the famous 'Liberty Bell', and my own personal favourite, 'Eye of Horus', a vaguely sinister piece of music accompanied by sound effects of rushing water, used in the 'Déjà Vu' sketch. It's slightly disappointing that the scope of this release couldn't be widened to include some of the DeWolfe music used in the film 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail', but hopefully there's potential for a follow-up volume to cover that. Nevertheless, this is still a fascinating selection of instrumental music, much of which will be very familiar to avid Python fans.
WARNING-WRONG CD SHOWN FOR REVIEWS
PLEASE NOTE- THE CD SHOWN ABOVE IS NOT THE FIRST MONTY PYTHON CD AT ALL.
THE OTHER REVIEWS SAY IT IS BUT ITS A NEW CD WITH MUSIC ONLY. CHECK THE FRONT OF THE CD FOR PROOF. What i think has happened is the cover is almost identical to the original first Album and Amazon have made a mistake. Be careful.
