Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Whatever you think of the soppy albeit inspirational 1997 hit , "I Wish I Could Fly", there is no doubt that R Kelly is the best smutty R&B (as well as the biggest selling) singer/composer of the 90s. Like an angel indulging in phone sex, Kelly has crafted a career as soulful sex machine with a voice to match. Author of Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone" as well as a string of hits for Celine Dion, Aaliyah and Puff Daddy, Kelly transcended his humble beginnings as a Bobby Brown clone with his overtly sexual second album 12 Play, released in 1993. Although TP-2.com marks a slight departure from his previous offerings, the material still concentrates on his usual themes: love, sex and the loss of his beloved mother. Although some of his contemporaries have been praised for working with innovative and stark hip-hop arrangements, Kelly's cross-generational appeal is reflected in his ability to sing histrionic, overblown spiritual ballads and explicitly sexual material without contradiction. So on TP.2.com he delivers a few irreverent bump & hustle anthems as well as swooning declarations to both his lovers and late mother, and it doesn't break the flow. Armed with fantastic ballads like "I Wish" and weepy string-laden tearjerkers like "The Storm Is Over Now" (complete with a delightful children's choir), TP-2.com is Kelly in A-list singing heaven. There are many highlights on this 19-track album: "Strip For You" does exactly that, as Kelly gives his girl a strip-tease over stark beats; "Fiesta", a sensual and lyrically fascinating track, takes social and sexual athletics to new heights; while the (for Kelly) atypical "Like a Real Freak", with its fusion of Spanish guitar, urban percussion and dirty talk, works favourably. TP-2.com is Kelly at his most confident and mature. It's not groundbreaking like D'Angelo, but so what? Kelly is a singer-composer who can move effortlessly and soulfully with the times. --Na'solo So Fahed

Is this the best R'n'B album ever?5
R. Kelly, argueably the best R'n'B artist in the world is back with this stunning new album, entitled TP-2.COM. This all round entertainer never stops to suprise, with a huge variety of tracks. My favourite is the superb remix of the single 'I Wish', which is dedicated to a lost friend of Kelly's. This track has everything you could expect with its well-thought lyrics, dynamic bass and careful composition of sounds, including a violin beginning. Also worth a mention is 'Like A Real Freak' in which the sound of the guitar opening makes the listener expect a calm track only to be overtaken by the fantastic vocal talent and stomach churning bass. Altogether this album is an absolute must for any true R'n'B fan.

Moving, Diverse and typical R. Kelly4
How do you follow up an album that has been certified as six-times platinum? That is the question that R. Kelly once again answers, with the new release TP-2.com, letting his music speak more than anything else.

19 tracks on this, his 5th album, once again show the diverse skills of R. Kelly's powerful and varied song writing and performing. Any R. Kelly fan will not be disapointed, with this album sounding more like the R. Kelly album, than his last offering R. There are many slow and sexy songs, where R. Kelly's voice just glides like a bird, singing about 'The Greatest Sex' he's ever had and asking if he can 'Strip For You' on two tracks, where the up-tempo 'Just Like A Real Freak' will be a club hit, with a sultry Spanish guitar playing throughout the song.

'Don't You Say No' is one of the standout tracks on the album, as well as the gospel influenced 'The Storm Is Over Now'. His current release 'I Wish' is included as well as the 'I Wish Remix', which is as hard-hitting as the original song. 'Will the real R. Kelly please stand-up' on 'The Real R. Kelly' is similar to Eminem's 'The Real Slim Shady', but musically this is another brilliant track.

Surprisingly 'Bad Man' is omitted after the success from the 'Shaft' soundtrack, but this selection will not disapoint.
