Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
Oasis were already dubbed the New Beatles before the release of What's The Story--within a month of it going multi-platinum, The Times claimed they were more important than the Fabs; and Liam Gallagher was inviting George Harrison to fight him on Primrose Hill. But then, you'd feel cocky enough to pick on a Beatle if you'd just recorded these songs. Obviously the singles--"Wonderwall", "Don't Look Back In Anger", "Some Might Say"--rock; but it's a shocker rediscovering just how ace the album tracks are. The minor-chord that the chorus of "Hey Now!" pivots on could liquefy a brick; "Champagne Supernova" is the sound of a band riding the nose-cone of a rock & roll Concorde, and as for "She's Electric"--ah, well. Every New Beatles must have their "Maxwell's Silver Hammer". --Caitlin Moran

Mostly great.
(What's The Story) Morning Glory? is mostly succesful. Some may be put off by the Gary Glitter association of Hello; and Hey Now & Roll With It are pretty forgettable. When it's good, however, it's very good indeed:Cast No Shadow, Champagne Supernova, Some Might Say etc...
boring
sorry but this album is as dull as dishwater .unimaginative, bland, they have been extremely lucky to do so well. like a bad version of 'the ruttles'.
Pure rock 'n' roll
I was living in the US when I first heard about this album. I was very sceptical...and then I listened to it. I've heard some shockingly good albums, but this really was (and is) something special. Basically, he (ie. the songwriter) has two things going for him: (1) simple, almost psychedelic stream-of-consciousness lyricism; (2) raw understanding of how distorted power chords can sound. The brother has more charisma than anyone since John Lydon started spitting on folks at the Marqee Club; he is true rock-n-roll. Where do I put this one? Up there with the Smiths debut, Never Mind the Bollocks, All Mod Cons, a little bit of Revolver. His (ie. the songwriter's) musical heritage comes over in every chord sequence. Never as subtle as a Paul Weller, never as adept as a Johnny Marr, they made it that big that soon because IT WAS PURE ROCK N ROLL. Mancunian blokes on building sites popping e's and twatting around with their guitars. The songs? Too good to mention: Hello. Brilliant opener...Roll with It, etc. Not one duff one. Sadly the muse left him shortly after this and they started making Record Label Rock...now they're written off as has-been's I suspect that Noel Gallagher will come back and shock us again with his talent. But if you want to listen to a man who wanted it badly enough -- and suddenly hit the sweet spot at just the right time -- this was the defining album of the last, oh god, 15 years. Saw them a few times live...average band. Nothing compares with putting this on your CD and turning the volume up FULL.
