Premature Album Release for ex-babe
Mutya is a true personalty with a great and distinctive voice. The Sugababes have produced some of the best pop music of the 21st century, and I was very dissapointed when Ms Buena decided to leave the group. At the time she left she stated it was because she wanted to concentrate on her family, but then it seemed this was just a "line" and she actually wanted a solo career. I first encountered her new music after purchasing George Michael's latest compilation "25", and thought their duet was pretty good. Then when she released the single "Real Girl" I was excited as I was expecting great things. Then the collaboration with Grove Armada absolutely blew me away and I eagerly purchased her album. What a let down. Full of boring formulaic R&B/pop that you can find on numerous other chart albums. If you want a good record by an ex-babe buy Siobahn's "Ghosts".

Not my usual, but totally addictive...
Let's get one thing straight, I am usually a house music girl. I look down on music that's too commercial as not worth a listen based on the fact that they seem to be filling the coffers of the faceless executives and are not based on anything more profound than that. This, however, is a brilliant album based on Mutya's fabulous voice and she is incredible. It's got such an addictive punch to it and I love it. It's pure pop excellence and makes me want to dance around my room with a big smile on my face (I am a big fan of Song for Mutya for this) and Real Girl is going to turn into a real "I need a bit empowerment, please" anthem. This album has got depth, soul and a big thumbs up from me. Buy it!

a grower
this album is definitely a grower. on first listening, it appears to be just another run-of-the-mill production-line squeeze-out. but after several listens it really starts to sink in how well produced, sung, written and arranged it is.

favourite songs will probably include "breakdown motel", "strung out", "it's not easy" and (my own personal favourite) "my song".

mutya (hope you don't mind the familiarity) sings with conviction and style. just keep up the good song choices for the difficult second album, please. i'll happily write something for ya! :-)
