Amazon.co.uk Review
Offering a real improvement on its predecessor and successfully introducing one of the world of comics' most popular characters in the process, Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer easily warrants some attention on DVD to go with its impressive box office take.

Picking up where the surprisingly tepid original left off, Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer finds the Marvel Comics Universe's first family dealing with the celebrity that their powers have brought them, to the point where even a simple wedding can't take place without interruption.

The film then takes a little while to re-establish its characters and re-introduce some of the issues that underpin them. But it's not too long before the Silver Surfer arrives, and things really get into gear. For make no mistake: it's the Surfer who ignites the film and provides some of the very best moments of Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer. Backed up by some superb special effects work, he's a far more interesting draw that the returning Julian McMahon as Dr Doom.

While there are, inevitably, various problems that each of the characters in Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer must face, the film never opts to go knee-deep into them. Instead, it chooses a light, breezy tone, that's suited well to family viewing yet not without some genuine blockbuster moments.

It's no classic, but Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer is most certainly fun. And it's equally certain that this isn't the last we've seen of this quintet of heroes... --Jon Foster

DVD Description
Marvel's first family of superheroes, The Fantastic Four, meets their greatest challenge yet in Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer as the enigmatic, intergalactic herald, The Silver Surfer comes to Earth to prepare it for its destruction. As he races around the globe wreaking havoc, Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben must unravel the mystery of the Silver Surfer and confront the surprising return of their mortal enemy Dr. Doom before all hope is lost.

Synopsis
The sequel to the 2005 blockbuster FANTASTIC FOUR, RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER finds the Marvel superhero quartet of Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd), Sue Storm (Jessica Alba), Johnny Storm (Chris Evans), and Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis) facing an extraterrestrial threat in the form of the title character (played by Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne), an enigmatic being whose presence on Earth could signal the planet's end. Amidst the ensuing action, Reed and Sue attempt to tie the knot, and an old foe (Dr. Doom, portrayed by Julian McMahon) waits in the wings, allowing for plenty of levity and drama.
This FANTASTIC FOUR outing, once again directed by Tim Story, gets much of its verve from the Silver Surfer himself. Played by Jones, an actor best known for his dual roles in PAN'S LABYRINTH, the Surfer is more than just CGI sheen, with subtle movements that seem truly alien and a voice of supreme gravitas, courtesy of Fishburne. Reed and Sue deal with wedding woes, while the fiery Johnny (aka The Human Torch) and a rock-solid Ben (The Thing) provide an extra dose of humour in a power-switching plot, making the film much lighter than other Marvel offerings.

Not very Fantastic Four2
I must admit to quite liking the first FF movie. Laughable Doc Doom aside it was a lighter all-ages Marvel movie and I guess, if you're a non-comics reading viewer who enjoyed it too, you'll probably quite happily sit through this one as well.
Alas, for me this one just bit off a bit more than it could chew. Silver Surfer's angst-ridden journey of will he/won't he help the Earth against his master? Nah, that's just a bit too heavy for movie FF so we'll just have him zip around a bit, say a few doom-laden lines and then change his mind at the last minute.
Fantastic Four fighting as a team? Nah, SFX and/or the budget isn't up to that so we'll cheat by giving all the powers to just one person.
Galactus? Nah, even though he's the main threat we'll just ignore him, leave it really late 'til he arrives and then we won't have to show him.
I know, lets just get Doc Doom (even more laughable and un-Doom like this time around) in there again.
Absolutely hopeless. I was so disappointed.

Fantastic Fun!4
"Rise Of The Silver Surfer" is the sequel to the 2005 film "Fantastic Four" (which was unfairly panned by the critics).

Set 2 years after the original film, The Fantastic Four (Sue "Invisible Girl" Storm, Reed "Mr Fantastic" Richards, Johnny Storm and Ben "The Thing" Grimm) have now come to terms with their powers and have actually used them to become world-renowned celebrities.

Reed (Ioan Griffith) is also set to wed Sue (Jessica Alba), however these plans are scuppered when a silver being from another planet ("The Silver Surfer" who has been destroying planets throughout the solar system) selects Earth as his next target.

The heroes then have to unite and try to stop "The Surfer" from jepordising the human race, whilst also dealing with the returning Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon).

As with the first film, many scenes are played for laughs (i.e., The Fantastic Four's celebrity status, The Thing struggling to sit down in an airplane seat, Reed's obsession with trying to save the world, even on his own wedding day), but director Tim Story also knows when to get serious and tap into the emotions of the characters.

The film is very action-packed, with a simple, easy-to-follow plot and a short run time (which makes a nice change).

If I was to find fault with the film, I'd say that Jessica Alba's performance as Sue Storm isn't quite as convincing as it was in the first film (plus they've changed her look by giving her weird-looking contacts in her eyes).

However, overall this is good fun that should impress anyone who enjoyed the first film or likes films of this nature.

The extras are superb and include an extentsive diary of the filming process, along with deleted scenes, a feature on the origin of the "SIlver Surfer" and more.

I Must Learn To Stop Renting Films Like This.2
Nothing amazing. Just more time spent watching a mediocre story with less than mediocre acting and loads of special effects. Unfortunately this falls neatly into the lets spend loads of money on effects and get the cleaner to write the story. I should have known better, but one day I am going to be amazed by one of these films. Lots of people seemed to have enjoyed it though. Can't think why.
