Synopsis
When ZU WARRIORS FROM THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN first appeared in 1983, Hong Kong audiences were shocked by the level of sophistication of the film's special effects. Determined to raise the production values of Hong Kong films to that of the United States, director Tsui Hark hired special effects experts from Hollywood to help him create a mind-boggling fantastical adventure with flying swords, staffs made of pure energy, a pulsing blood monster, and a wizard with bushy eyebrows that act as long whips. Set in the sublime crags and peaks of Szechuan, during the midst of a senseless war between blue, red, orange, and green factions, ZU is adapted from the 64-volume novel THE LEGEND OF ZU. The story follows unlucky soldier Ti Ming Chi (Yuen Biao), who becomes entangled in a quest to save the Earth from evil spirits. Also featuring the portly Sammo Hung and the graceful Brigitte Lin (whose flowing robes and martial arts skill resemble her Invincible Asia character in SWORDSMAN II), ZU is a non-stop spectacle that recalls the mythopoetic fantasy CLASH OF THE TITANS. Eastern myth and fantasy, Western technology, and Hark's perpetual motion pacing combine in a film that ends in a plea for unity.

This is SFX kung fu at its best (and weirdest)
This is without a doubt one of the greatest films ever made. Although the plot is slightly confusing to begin with, it is worth bearing with it as you will be treated to some of the greatest and most unique fight sequences ever seen.
Buy this film, if not for the weirdness then for the excellently elaborate sequences.
the original mystic version of china
the story is based how a once coward becomes the chosen warrior to defend the earth against evil.
i watched this film when i was little and loved it then, the dvd version i have from the states is pretty simple but its just, the story which is fantastic. it tackles the age old story of good versus evil with love sacrifice and mystical poweres shoved in. even if you didn't like crouching tiger this is still a great film to watch and own just for the acting and special effects. above all just watch the movie you won't be dissapointed i wasn't
a piece of cinema history
i watched this film when i was a kid. and absoloutley loved it even to this day now i can still feel the same excitement as i did when i was a kid when i watch the film. from start to end this is one of the best films ever, and those swords WOW!!!
