Oral-B Triumph standard
I bought this purely as it was on offer and my old Philips Sonicare was on its last legs. Medically speaking i'm sure they are all as good as each other but the thing that stands out is how the Oral-B really attacks your teeth and leaves them feeling thoroughly clean whereas the Sonicare just sits there humming quietly to itself. The second thing you'll notice is the cost of refills. It was getting tedius shelling out for the Sonicare refills and happily these are less than half the price.
As to the build of the thing, the stand is quite a nice little contraption with an enclosed box for spare brush heads and its easy to clean so wont get covered in gunk like the Sonicare did. I was slightly unsure how useful an LCD screen could ever be on a toothbrush, but it certainly doesnt detract from the brush and just serves to make your life a little easier by telling you how long you've been brushing, how much charge is in the battery etc.
It's as much a matter of cost and personal preference when choosing this or a Sonicare, but personally speaking when its time for replacement i think this brush has convinced me to stay with Oral-B. It's just that little bit better
I'm a dentist and this is simply a perfect toothbrush!
Firstly, you must use this brush very differently to a manual toothbrush. Think floor polisher and not vacuum cleaner. Move slowly and deliberately over each tooth. Make sure you get the brsitles between the tooth and gums. Also change the heads frequently, I find mine last as little as 3 weeks before losing optimum effectiveness. If the bristles are buckled or bent, then they're not working nearly as well as they should.
So why is it the perfect brush? Well a small round head can get to all parts of the mouth. Both the Cochrane Review and Bandolier (both hugely respected independent UK research organisations) have checked multiple studies and found ONLY a rotating oscillating brush is significantly better than a manual toothbrush - i.e. a brush like this.
Also, these brushes have bristles that are longer in just the right parts to clean between gums and have sensors to stop you overloading any part of your mouth.
The cheaper Oral-Bs: Vitality Sensitive Clean, Pro Care 5000, Pro Care 7000, Pro Care 8500 - all feature the same basic round head and simple bristles that are tried and tested. Just make sure you get one of these for your teeth!
An Investment!
I do not usually spend this sort of cash on something like an electric toothbrush. However, after a few expensive trips to the dentist, I was recommended this one by a friend and flashed the cash! Take my word for this, it is worth EVERY penny! It comes with 2 different brush heads, one with a floss like action that gets in between the gaps of your teeth and another with a polishing action. The toothbrush itself has 4 settings: hard brushing, soft brushing, polishing and gum massage. Each one is designed to offer you something greater than just a quick clean. Also, it comes with an lcd screen which tells you your battery life, how long you've been brushing for and, gives you a smiley face once you've brushed for ling enough - brilliant! The charging station is a really nice touch and the whole thing looks and feels like a really premium product. Well worth the expenditure. With Xmas coming up I reckon this could be a great gift for a loved one! Highly recommended.
