There's a new trend among the young designers and decorators of Paris: an embracing of an aesthetic called fait main. Literally, this means made by hand, but in this case it includes not only new items fashioned by hand but vintage objects and found objects that are valued as they are, or that may have been reworked. What unites them is the handprint of a talented creator. Stylist Pia Jane Bijkerk has discovered more than fifty places-organized into walks-that embody this style. Some are shops owned by professional chineurs, people who hunt out objects sought after by interior decorators, architects, and stylists. Other places aren't really shops but primarily studios, where, if you stop by, you can purchase something directly from the artist. Also included are nearby cafés, bakeries, cheese shops, and tearooms with artisanal foods that reflect the spirit of made by hand.

Editorial Reviews
Review
Parisian style isn't limited to the sartorial variety, there is a lot to covet when it comes to homewares too. Whether it's old fashioned chic you're after with a unique antique or the careful workmanship of a contemporary artisan, there is plenty on offer in the French capital. Two new titles from New York publishing house The Little Bookroom showcase this perfectly. Paris: Made by Hand embraces the fait main aesthetic among the new designers and decorators in the capital city - not only does it include new items created by artists, but it also lists where to find the best found objects in the city. --Living France

Customer Reviews
The best book I have bought in months!
I was really looking forward to this book coming out and it didn't disappoint!! This fantastic book, written by the very talented Pia Jane Bijerk (who also took all the lovely photos throughout the book), is a refreshing and endearing way of looking at Paris. More than just a shopping guide, Pia's 'wanders' allow the reader to explore and experience the city in a completely new way. It doesn't even matter if you are going to Paris or not. It stands up on its own. I love Pia's eye for the unique and beautiful shops and objects featured in the book.
Small is beautiful
Beautiful, inspiring book full of charm character and curiosities. Well documented with precise locations, times of openings and amazing photography - my only initial surprise was that it was so small however in thinking about it it would fit neatly in your handbag while searching for these gems. Wonderful!
Disappointing
Althought the content of the book was thorough and varied (although maybe not as quirky as I had hoped), the imagery (which is what I purchased it for) was disappointing. Most of the shots were very yellow in tone & the reproduction quality was poor. i ended up returning it.
