Brilliant Piece of Kit5
I needed an ultraportable for book-writing, emails and web-surfing for an annual overseas trip. The eee was perfect. I used it for some work on the aircraft (it fits nicely on the seat-back table) and then watched a video on it and listened to some music. On my travels it had no problem connecting to wireless hotspots.

At home it instantly connected to the internet and my home network and detected my other two PC's running XP. Its wireless reception is great and even detects a 70% signal from a friend's house in the next street.

Yes - the keyboard and screen are small - but that's the price of ultraportability. At home I can have my cake and eat it as it instantly worked with a full-size USB wireless keyboard and mouse and connects easily to a large screen if required. However, it's just right for using on the sofa or in bed.

Oh - and its cute!

Great for idle surfing or when travelling4
So small and light and yet does so much.
So quick to boot up that it makes it an ideal device to just keep for idle surfing.
So portable that you can easily drop it into a briefcase or smaller and take it wherever you go.

The Linux operating system shouldn't be daunting to anyone, it is very easy to use. This model can even cope with a cut-down version of Windows if you want.

The screen works well but the keyboard is small. I don't find that a particular problem but I find the quality of the mouse button quite poor (the only thing that lets the unit down). However, that feels like nit-picking.

Be aware that there are two distinct models, this one comes with a built-in webcam, the other one (Surf) doesn't.
You might also want to consider buying a DRAMM (memory) upgrade - easy to fit and even just going to 1Gb makes quite a difference.
The linux version it comes with has some limitations and again, you might want to consider another linux 'flavour' if you want more control and the ability to simply install new applications. You don't need to however.
As warned in the documentation, the unit does get pretty hot in use, especially when charging. Younger users may need supervising to ensure no burnt extremities.

This is a great, small ultra-portable at a great price. They are great for general use, for travelling and for use by kids. Be aware that these are in high demand and you may have to wait a while to get one though!
