The Place to Start
Basho is vital figure in the history of world literature. His - relatively - low profile in this country is largely due to a lack of understanding of his work and what it meant. This study presents enough of the work to give any beginner an insight into Basho's genius. It also presents substantial and easy to follow arguments about the development of his work and the times in which he lived. A superb introduction to a great writer.
