Product Description

The Croatian city of Dubrovnik is a perfect extended stop-off for travellers exploring Mediterranean Europe by land or sea. Byron's 'Pearl of the Adriatic' has everything for the cultural enthusiast including Italian architecture, palaces and churches. Bathe in the clear waters of the Adriatic Sea, or take in one of the best views of the city atop the impressive town walls. This guide covers more than just the city: for those seeking a retreat from the bustle of the city, discover scenic walks on the islands just off Dubrovnik's peaceful coastline, or venture further with a day trip to a neighbouring country.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author
I've had a love affair with Croatia for more than twenty
years, ever since I first inter-railed round Europe in 1982 and got
stranded in Split for four days, waiting for someone to show up who never
showed. It wasn't difficult to find my way from there to Dubrovnik, or to
be entranced forever by the city once I got there.

It wasn't long before I was hammering at Bradt's door and clamouring to
write about (what was then) Yugoslavia. That book came out in 1989, just in
time to be washed away by the war - I spent 1991 glued to the television
set, watching in horror as Dubrovnik was shelled, and had to wait a decade
for my second chance to write about it. My guide to Croatia was published
in 2003 (with a second edition in 2005 and a third in 2007), but between
these covers I trust you'll find the most comprehensive, useful and
up-to-date city guide to Dubrovnik.

Customer Reviews

Dubrovnik Revisited5
An absolutely wonderful guide to an absolutely wonderful city! - I had spent countless hours researching countless websites, with varying degrees of success, before discovering the Bradt travel guide for Dubrovnik (and Croatia). "Dubrovnik" not only provides what is almost certainly the most up to date and comprehensive list of hotels, restaurants, things to do and places to see, but it also offers some truly delightful anecdotes about the city and its people. -- A must read for anyone planning to visit the city. And a definite must read for anyone who plans to return.

Excellent Guide.5
Like the reader from Lincoln (below), I've just returned from a week in Dubrovnik. However I have to say we found this guide excellent. On the subject of walks, no general guide book can possibly give detailed instructions; Piers Letcher does in any case make clear just how difficult the walk up to Mount Srd is. The maps are as good as you will get in what is a very compact book (just about possible to squeeze into a pocket). Indeed for its size it's full of information. And there are nice touches of humour. Inevitably one does disagree with some opinions, and restaurants/cafes open and close, but the publishers do invite comments to keep the thing up to date.

I also found the Rough Guide to Croatia very useful, but that's a much bigger book. For a handy sized, all-round guide to this glorious city I thoroughly recommend this Bradt Guide.

Getting the best from Dubrovnik5
I have been much more than happy with this great little companion - and found it invaluable, eminently portable, reliable, and it led me and my husband to some fascinating, amazing things in the city - Piers Letcher's recommendations never disappointed. I will definitely be buying Bradt guides again and have already recommended them to a number of people. A great new resource!
