Manufacturer's Description:
What do you get when you put up to 2GHz of pure Intel Core Duo power, an iSight camera, Front Row, iLife ’06 and a 13-inch glossy widescreen display into a sleek case? More than you thought possible for less than you thought possible. Meet MacBook.
Now the Intel Core Duo is as affordable as it is powerful. With MacBook, you get the world’s fastest mobile architecture in a beautifully designed notebook that costs less than slower, clunkier models. That’s like getting a sports car for the price of a scooter. Of course, MacBook holds more than your average two-seater: up to 80GB hard drive, an optional DVD-burning SuperDrive, built-in Bluetooth, wireless-ready (802.11g) AirPort and up to 2GB of RAM. And for the first time ever, choose bright white or sleek black.
Every MacBook comes with iLife ’06 — an amazing suite of applications that make it easy to live the digital life. Use iPhoto to share entire high-res photo albums with anyone who’s got an email address. Record your own songs and podcasts with GarageBand. Break into indie filmmaking with iMovie HD and iDVD. Then take all the stuff you made on your MacBook and share it on the web in one click with iWeb. Just turn on your MacBook and you’re halfway there.
MacBook features Front Row, so you can navigate your movies, music, photos and more at the touch of the included Apple Remote — no matter where you roam. Give an impromptu slideshow of your holiday photos in your favourite café. Screen your latest iMovie on the train. Watch a DVD in bed. MacBook and Front Row give you the best seat in the house (or out of it).
Look closely. See that little lens in the display bezel? That’s the MacBook’s built-in iSight camera. Use it to video chat simply by opening iChat AV and clicking on a buddy icon (or three). Or fire up Photo Booth and take a few snapshots with the iSight, play around with sixteen fun effects, then admire your handiwork. That little camera lets you create Web-ready videos, too. Just open up iMovie and start the action. From there, iWeb makes it one-click easy to get your talking head on the Web. Looks like fun.
Thanks to a 13.3-inch glossy widescreen display that’s 79% brighter with 30% more viewing area than the iBook before it, MacBook provides the perfect combination of pixels and portability. Photos feel crisper. Movies play vividly. Even daily tasks like surfing the Web and checking email take on a whole new sheen.
The built-in wireless capability of MacBook puts the "world" back in "World Wide Web". If there’s a wireless hot spot nearby, you can get online. No need to burn valuable surfing time configuring your computer. Just open it up. MacBook automatically detects wireless networks within range and asks nicely if you’d like to join any of them. That’s it. Catch up on your blog, share this weekend’s trip as a photocast, or just chat with your friends. Anytime, anywhere.

MacBook 2ghz, 80bg Hardrive and 1gb RAM.
Recieved my MacBook yesterday and haven't been able to stop playing with it yet! I ordered mine diredtly from Apple and uprated the hardrive and the RAM but the computer is still a very powerful piece of equipment in it's standard form.
So what made me buy a MacBook...? Well, the standard video and picture editing software that this laptop come with is far superior to anything that comes as standard on a PC based Laptop. The built in iSight camera is also fantastic and the bluetooth and Airport (wireless internet) as standard also proves that Apple may not be the cheapest but they do bild quality equipment.
I have found it so easy to use and incredibley intuitive when navigating menus and browsing through files. Everything processes so much quicker than my desktop and the whole package just feels smoother and better built than anything else I hav come across.
Originally I had several reservations about buying this item. First, the screen size at only 13.3 inches bothered me but once I saw one in the flesh I was reassured. It is a widescreen format screen and is perfectly adequete for a laptop. After all, if the screen and machine were any bigger it would not fit on your lap! another reservation of mine was moving from windows to Mac and the painstaking file transfer that would have to be embarked upon. However, I have not found this to be true. All my Office files transfered over easily and so too did my pictures and music libary. I was finally won over by the reassurance that I would not encounter Mac problems when opening my old files.
the whole package is full of quality touches... the remote is fantastic, the standard software is great and the trackpad is the best of any I have used. Apple, incase you don't know, have no right-click feature because they only have one long click-bar. howveer, this has been sorted by a clever trackpad and bar that sense how many fingers you have on the pad and then allows you to rightclick without constantly having to reach for the ctrl key.
All in all a quality piece of kit. I couldn' be happier with it and believe that I have now been converted to Mac from Windows.
Great Design but Questionable Quality
I am a long term Mac user and have owned my Macbook for the last 3 months. There's much I love about it - I find the Mac OS X operating system easy to use, and it comes with a lot of useful software already included such as iTunes, Mail, and Calendar. There are also very few viruses and trojans that are aimed at Mac's, making them an excellent choice for on-line banking and other security sensitive applications. The Macbook itself is a beautifully designed machine, and in the 2Ghz form it runs most applications very fast indeed. However, note that Macbooks lack the video capability to run the newer 3D games like Quake 4 - you're better off with a Macbook Pro or an iMac if you're going to be gaming!!
The big drawback for me is the quality issues surrounding the machine. Hot running is a commonly reported issue and my own machine has developed a fault where it heats up after being switched off. This and other problems seem to be widely reported on the web. I'm going to have to send it off to repairs - but even with Apple Care this will take 5-10 days - not a great service when you're relying on your machine for work. You do pay more for an Apple so I expect quality to be up to scratch - hence I can only give 3 stars.
MacBook 2GHz: super hot
I bought my MacBook two months ago after my two years old Toshiba died. I think it is fair to say that it is better than any pc I ever had. I run Parallels on it to use the old software I need for my PhD and it runs smoothly. So far the cons I have found are:
- Computer runs way too hot. It will certainly burn your lap and when running havier applications it gets uncomfortable to type with your left hand (area around W is super hot).
- Sound is too weak.
- Palmrest area gets strange spots.
- Online video streaming is still an issue.
But I am sure Apple is already on these issues. Make sure you get an extended warranty! Don't see a single reason to ever go back to pc's.
