This book charts a course along ten of the most interesting canal waterways, many of which are hidden away in areas of outstanding natural beauty deep in the heart of the British countryside. In addition to the main text, which explores in detail the major canals, this book includes information on the history of each canal, including a colour map; places of interest to visit in the local area; pub and boat trips; and a gazetteer of every national canal.

Quality Canal Coverage
If your looking for a good introduction to Britain's canals this is the book for you. It concentrates on nine areas covering England, Wales and Scotland from Wiltshire in the south to the Caledonian Canal through Lock Ness and the Great Glen of Scotland. Excellent photographs by Ian Burgum, reproduced here to a high standard, are accompanied by text from a canal expert Paul Atterbury. Paul's expertise is not confinded to waterways and he frequently appears in the Antiques Roadshow on TV. By picking a variety of canals from around the UK this book gives a real flavour of our historic navgations as they are today. If you thought the introduction by Timothy West and Prunella Scales was going to be just a few words of celebrity endorsement you will be delighted to find that it is written from the heart by two enthusiastic boaters.
