Great overview of marine aquarium chemistry
If you have some basic high school chemistry then that's about all you need to understand this book. It gives the basic principles of what's going on in your marine aquarium - covering, amongst other subjects, the nitrogen cycle, maintaining calcium levels, pH and alkalinity.
If you want to know a bit more about the 'whys' to help understand how to maintain the balance then this book is a great helper and excellent value.
Bargin, Bargin, Bargin.
This book is amazing value. Its a short chemistry lesson but not too complicated. If you know that Marine fish live in salt-water and what pH is you'll be fine. If you want to keep marine fish you will be in a much better position if you read and undertand this book before you buy. Plus it has the added bonus of a good number of high quality picutres and diagrams.
A "must" for the home aquarist
This is a great book for the home aquarist, which should not feel threatned by the title: there's no need for a degree in chemistry to understand the contents. Although the book focuses on the marine aquarium, it also has very useful information for the freshwater aquarium. There are no misterious "never do" phrases; if there's a good reason to do (or not) something, it is clearly explained. The book also has an impressive set of photos of marine fish.
