Editorial Reviews

Review
Keeping marine fish is considered perhaps the most complex and difficult type of fish keeping, and many books would not come close to giving a complete guide to all areas of the hobby. Reputed author and renowned aquarist Dick Mills gives an amazing exploration of marine fish keeping, covering many aspects of the intricate subject. The book is split into two sections, the first clearly describing the mechanics, maintenance and preparation of a marine aquarium. This section has a very informative style, but is easy to read with many useful diagrams and pictures. The second section, labelled 'Fish Profiles', is a beautiful description of some common marine fish. Each profile contains essential data on the species, including their origin, compatibility, number per tank, availability and any information on breeding them. Mills' book is packed with great colour pictures, with useful information displayed on every page. If you are considering keeping marine fish, then 'The Marine Aquarium' is definitely worth a read. --Pet Focus

Synopsis
The traditional image of an encyclopedia as a large, heavy volume only occasionally taken down from a dusty shelf is blown out of the water by this new range of mini-encyclopedias. These are comprehensive, concentrated packages of up-to-date practical guidance on a variety of fishkeeping and water gardening themes. The core text is amplified and extended by panels, captions and annotations that accompany the photographs and graphic illustrations. The first part of each volume consists of a hands-on practical section that follows the step-by-step progress of a specific project. Accompanying text includes technical advice on the equipment required to complete each stage of the project. The second part features a wide range of species or varieties relevant to the subject. These profile sections are profusely illustrated with stunning colour photographs and are designed to inspire readers to expand their collections. By combining practical and reference sections, these mini encyclopedias represent the ideal compromise in a world where shelf space is limited but the thirst for knowledge increases every day.

From the Inside Flap
This mini encyclopedia is packed with sensible advice and practical guidance. The first part explores the techniques and systems used to sustain tropical marine fishes and shows how to apply these in setting up a tropical marine aquarium. This is followed by expert advice on feeding, maintenance, health care and breeding. Part two presents a wide-ranging selection of tropical marine fish from around the world, with details of their compatibility, feeding habits and breeding potential.

Customer Reviews

Useful for beginners3
Well laid out book which gives a good standardised format for selecting fish and equipment for the beginner to set-up a tank. However I found there was some incompleteness in the book, it doesn't go into much detail about invertebrates and only really concentrates on fish as far as a 'living' environment is concerned. I would prefer more detail or perhaps an accompanying book.

Excellent Book!5
As a marine enthusiast, I find this book to be incredibly useful as an aid for setting up tanks and maintaining a perfect harmony in them. The photography included is honestly second-to-none, making it easy for even the most inexperienced of people to build a perfect and healthy marine setup, and also a fantastic aid in choosing the right fish.
