A thoughtful moral work
Waters has made an excellent solo album in this(his most recent solo offereing). He has always been a master of the song concept and the concept album, but here he ties together the problems of our ninties world in media scams and self-centredness. He hits the nail on the head with 'Watching T.V.' - remember the death of Princess Diana yearsafter this album's release! Certainly the media turn our attentions to their subjects and away from others which they do not choose. The golden dollar, of course, is the incentive.
The music is less Floyd cliche than Gilmour's modern 'Momentary Lapse/Division Bell' works, as waters gives himself room for experimentation (hence he has just finished an opera!!)
Waters seems to have got over his ego problems and accepted his status as an intriguing wordsmith/songwriter who can still shock and surprise even his faithful fan-base. Continued references to war, however, are getting a little dull -I thought he had dealt with these issues on disc on 'The Final Cut'! However, this is still a great album, and indeed 'one in the eye' for erstwhile band-mates!
