Product Description

A sustained art-historical analysis of the work of the Picts, perhaps the least well-known of the Celtic peoples, who occupied north-eastern Scotland between the 6th and 9th centuries. The only real traces of their society are stone cross slabs and some silverwork, all engraved with symbols.

About time5
It really is about time a writer dedicated a book to the rich and largely unappreciated artwork and maginificent symbol stones of Britains lost culture. It has long gone unrecognised that the Picts were the last of the original inhabitants of Late bronze age Britain, indeed they were the ancestors of the orginal builders of Stonehenge and Maes Howe.

Far from mere savages the Picts were a lively, organised and united society ruled by High Kings when the rest of Britian was reduced to petty Chiefdoms and Minor Kingdoms.

An excellent book and a must for all readers interested in Britains early past.
