Change the way you look at TV

Your computer is the centre of your digital life. Your TV is the centre of your entertainment life. But what if you want to watch music videos, movie trailers, video podcasts or photos on your TV? Apple TV gives you more to watch on the big screen.

The revolution will be televised.
Instead of huddling around your computer to watch what’s on iTunes, connect Apple TV to your widescreen television and wirelessly sync your iTunes library. Then pull up a seat, put up your feet, and pick up the included Apple Remote to play iTunes on your TV. Give yourself a hand: you’ve just changed the way you watch digital media.

iTunes to Apple TV, wire-free.
Apple TV connects to your TV via an HDMI port or component video and audio ports. Its built-in, superfast 802.11 wireless capability syncs your iTunes library to any Mac or PC in the house. Best of all, what’s on Apple TV stays in sync: whenever you change your library in iTunes, it changes on Apple TV — wirelessly, automatically.

What’s on TV? Whatever you want.
Apple TV puts your iTunes library — including music, music videos and podcasts — plus movie trailers from Apple.com on your TV. And your digital photos from iPhoto on a Mac or Adobe Photoshop Elements or Adobe Album on a Windows PC appear in high definition, so you can put on a stunning big-screen slideshow.

Musically inclined.
If the best sound system in your house is connected to your TV, why play your iTunes library anywhere else? Apple TV lets you browse and play songs and watch music videos, all on the big screen (and the big speakers).

Radio on the TV.
Thanks to Apple TV, you can enjoy podcasts on your TV for the first time ever. Listen to your favourite audio podcasts through your entertainment system speakers and watch video podcasts from the comfort of your sofa.

Get the big picture.
Apple TV brings photo slideshows out of the study and into the living room. Pull up the best seat in the house and view your photos in jaw-dropping high definition. With up thousands of photos at your fingertips, you’ll never cease to amaze.

All set.
From the Settings menu, you can set up your screen saver, your network, or your TV resolution, and get more information about your Apple TV.

It Just Fits

Easy connectivity and built-in wireless make Apple TV right at home in your home entertainment system.

Plug-and-play time.
Got a widescreen TV? Got iTunes? Then you’re ready for Apple TV. Connect Apple TV to your TV, then open iTunes on your computer. iTunes wirelessly detects Apple TV and walks you through the setup process, step by simple step.

Relax and unwire.
If you don’t have a wireless network, you can set one up easily with a wireless access point like the superfast 802.11 AirPort Extreme Base Station. Newer AirPort Extreme-enabled Macs let you create a wireless network using only your computer. And if you have a Mac or PC without built-in wireless capability, you can connect Apple TV to your network using an Ethernet cable (sold separately).

One step. Great leap.
Apple TV connects to your widescreen TV via an HDMI cable (sold separately). This simple connection delivers both audio and video to your TV — no need for multiple cables.

Options open.
If your TV’s HDMI port is occupied by another device, say a DVD player or DVR, or if your TV doesn’t have an HDMI port, you can connect to Apple TV via component video and audio. Or connect Apple TV’s audio to your A/V receiver via optical audio. No matter what your entertainment system looks like, Apple TV connects quickly and easily. And since Apple TV has a built-in power supply, there’s no unwieldy power brick to hide.

What you need.
• Widescreen TV
• Mac or PC
• iTunes 7.1 or later
• Wired or wireless network
• HDMI cable or
• Component video cables and analogue audio cables or optical audio cable

Compatible TVs
Apple TV works with widescreen, enhanced-definition or high-definition TVs capable of 1080i, 720p, 576p and 480p resolutions, including popular models from these manufacturers.

Wirelessly in Sync
Your iPod syncs seamlessly with iTunes. Apple TV does the same — wirelessly, from wherever your Mac or PC may be.

Sync through walls.
Your computer is in your office. Your TV is in your living room. Apple TV brings them together using its built-in 802.11 wireless capability and your existing wireless network. Pair Apple TV with your computer and your music, music videos, podcasts and photos sync automatically. Through the air. Like magic.

One-time setup. Full-time entertainment.
Open iTunes and Apple TV appears in your devices list, ready to sync. Set iTunes to sync things you haven’t watched yet. Set it to sync new purchases. Or just manually select what you want to watch. Set your syncing preferences once and Apple TV automatically updates as your iTunes library changes. Done and done.

Always on.
Apple TV streams as well as it syncs, so you can pair up to five computers and let friends and family stream their iTunes libraries to your TV. Apple TV stores up to 200 hours of video, ready to watch when you are. And if iTunes is still syncing what you want to see — or if you don’t want to sync at all — you can watch a stream from your computer right away

Simply the Best Media System to Attach to your Television !5
I have tried them all: Media Systems attached to the tv which stream from your pc, Windows Media Center, and many others. This is by far the best ! I bought the 160GB version, and I have not had one regret so far ! Amazing menus, and I have just downloaded my entire iTunes onto the hdd. Setup is as simple as can be: turn your pc on, open iTunes, ensure your network is up and running, and turn on the Apple TV. Note the code on your tv, which the Apple TV creates, then waddle over to your pc, tap that into iTunes (which would have already seen the Apple TV box on your network). You can then either stream or transfer the iTunes files. I opted to transfer, as it will then have everything without the pc being on. Goodness, could it be any easier. The menus and the remote are very responsive and it keeps things simple and user friendly. Video playback is a bit grainy, as these films, etc are designed for an ipod, and not your 50 inch display in the lounge ! However, if you are not used to High Definition SKY, etc, you will not see the difference. In fact Apple are going to release versions of films, etc for download in a resolution that will be in sync with a 50 inch display. So no fear for the future ! If you have a friend in the states, ask them nicely if you can put credit on their bank account and use the US iTunes. They have TONS of excellent stuff ! I am not saying that I have done this, but it's quite simple: iLibs, then copy across Libraries. The Apple TV is now an integral part of my entertainment system. It's an exceptional system, and sounds great either via the hdmi, or the optical output. I can only highly recommend you purchase one ! You will not regret it !

2009 Update: Apple's HD Content looks AMAZING on my 50inch HD Plasma....I still rave about this to my friends and family - still going strong... software updates from Apple are steady and have improved the menu system. If this broke tomorrow, I would buy a new one immediately, it's such an essential bit of kit in our TV Room....... Still the Best Media Centre device that money can buy !

If you have itunes but this... if you don't then get itunes then buy this!5
Apple do it again. Another sleek, sexy, wonderful piece of kit.

One box, two leads (three if you don't have wirless internet), and tv really is what you want it to be!

Very very easy to set up (though at first iTunes didn't see the device, just go into itunes, prefrences and untick the look for Apple TV box, select OK, then go back and re-tick it - it then found it no problem).

As well as downloading EVERYTHING you have on itunes, not just your music, but any movies, podcasts, tv shows etc, you can also

Download any folders of photos - then bore I mean show all your friends a neat slide show on your telly with your fav music in the background (or even cooler have your photos floating around the screen as your screen saver on your telly!).

Watch trailers of movies - want to go to cinema but not sure what films are worth seeing... this will give you huge list to look at.

Surf and watch youtube videos - if you into youtube that is!

Best of all - once you synched up and downloaded to the internal harddrive (will I ever fill a whole 160Gb??) you could always unplug the box, take the box, power lead and telly lead to a mates house for an evening watching movies, listening to music, or showing your holiday snaps!

Yeah everything this box can do you can do on your computer... but just so nice lounging in front of proper tv and with a simple remote having all this at hand.

Go on you know you want one!

Apple know how to design a fantastic product5
I have been putting off buying an apple tv for a while now, as I didnt really see the point of it, as you could view your photos and music using your computer or ipod. However when Apple announced your could buy films, rent films and buy tv shows I decided now was the time. I bought it yesterday and I must say wow!!! Apple are constantly out doing themselves. As usual with most Apple products set up was so easy. Simply plug it in to the back to the tv, plug in the power, connect your wireless connection and hey presto thats it!!! When you have your wireless set up, simply turn your pc on, and itunes detects your apple tv and syncs all your music, photos and film to the apple tv. However you dont have to have your PC turned on at all times as you can purchase music and rent films via the apple tv, the same way you can through your ipod touch and iphone.

The HDMI connection makes your photos very clear and the interface is similar to that of your standard ipod. My opinion I must buy, definitely go for the larger hard-drive especially if you have a couple of itunes accounts on the one pc.
