Manufacturer's Description
The MacBook uses a graphics processor that economizes space in a whole new way. A traditional computer logic board contains multiple components: the CPU, two chips that control communication throughout the computer, and the graphics processor. The logic board in the MacBook contains only two components: the CPU and a graphics processor with all of the core logic built into a single chip.Open your MacBook and you're instantly greeted by glorious full screen brightness. Anything you view, including the glossy widescreen display itself, is a spectacular experience. The LED-backlit display is more power efficient. And it's mercury- and arsenic-free, so it's greener than ever.

Customer Reviews

A reliable, sturdy, powerful and quality machine. The MacBook does it all!5
For [] many people would be scratching their heads and wondering if the price is justifiable. To keep it short and sweet, yes... it is.

I used to be a Microsoft Windows user, I've only recently switched to Macintosh in July and I can safely say that I am never going back! And here is why;

The MacBook is a brilliant compact notebook computer which, unlike many Microsoft Windows and Linux based machines, does not feel like it will fall apart in your hands with thin and flimsy plastic. The body is made from a very strong (and recyclable, surprisingly) polycarbonate plastic that can easily withstand the abuse that many people throw at their machines.

A 13" screen, by todays standards, is small. Especially when 15" to 17" notebooks exist on the market but the screen size has little to do with it. It's the resolution that matters. My old 15" Advent Laptop I owned before this MacBook had a resolution of 1280x800 which is the same as this 13" MacBook! A brilliant resolution for such a small screen it is still perfectly viewable even at a distance - This is thanks to the superb graphics and fonts available in Mac OSX.

Speaking of graphics. The MacBook uses a nVidia 9400M chipset, a very powerful mobile graphics processor with brilliant 3D performance for the price which is also used in Apple's more expensive MacBook Pro range AND in their MacMini and iMac desktop range. The graphics have great 3D performance and can even play detailed games such as call of duty with ease (be sure to be running on AC power when you do this, however)

The keyboard is ergonomic heaven! An absolute joy to type with. So good in fact that I've thrown away my Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard. The track pad is also very good, although it lacks the iPod like multi touch of the MacBook Pro line, it still has some nice little features. It's size and responsiveness are top-notch! You barely have to touch it and it springs into action. Tap the track pad with one finger and it 'clicks' - pretty standard. Tap the track pad with two fingers and it right clicks - this is something more laptop manufacturers need to include. Run two finger across the track pad and it scrolls in any direction! I used to always bring a mouse with me but this track pad is so well designed I leave it at home now.

Now for the nitty gritty, motherboard and component specifications.
The memory:
The standard 800MHz DDR2 RAM but in no way does it hinder performance. It is high quality memory that can easily handle any task. You may be thinking "but 2GB isn't very much by today's standards", you're right, it isn't... BUT, thats when referring to Microsoft Windows which as I'm sure many people know, is an absolute nightmare when it comes to memory! Vista needs 2GB just to run properly! Mac OSX (the operating system included) only needs a tiny 512MB (0.5GB) to run and 1GB to run smoothly. I can have countless messenger windows open, a 500page document, iTunes and 8+ web browser pages and I will only use around 1.5GB with very little (under 300MB) swapped to the disk. Memory management is one area where OSX performs much better than Windows, especially when Multi-Tasking. 2GB in this machine does the trick and is enough for almost any task. If you need more memory, the machine can be upgraded at a later date by a professional technician to a max of 4GB.

The CPU:
A powerful Intel Core2Duo. The same CPUs that are used in all Apple branded computers (excluding MacPro and XServe). Clocked at 2.13GHz with a 1.07GHz bus with a 3MB (shared) L2 cache with full 64-bit capabilities this CPU offers blazing performance, especially in Multi Tasking (this appears to be OSX's strongest point). I can produce music on my iMac, copy it to my MacBook and work on it again in bed without any serious performance degradation's.

Battery:
Apple say "up-to 5 hours", my battery is currently at 72% charge and I still have 4:56 left, this is with the WiFi switched on and after 1.5 hours of use already! Student in a lecture? You'll love this! One tiny little detail I do love about the battery meter is that, not only is it displayed on screen it is also displayed on the battery itself. Press a little button on the bottom of the notebook and a small row of LED's on the battery will tell you how much is left, this is great when the machine is turned off and you need to see how much juice you have left before you switch it on. When the computer is low on battery power it also doesn't do what countless windows machines do and beep at you (and it's a VERY loud beep) like crazy, the meter simply flashes red and the OS gives you a little warning. Simple.

Extra Features:
This is where the MacBook shines, all the little extras add up to make a truly great user experience.
-Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR - transfer files from your bluetooth enabled digital camera or camera phone to the computer in no time flat. You can also connect to bluetooth headsets, bluetooth keyboards, bluetooth mice, bluetooth graphics tablets and so on. This is cutting edge bluetooth technology, very few windows laptops have this.
-Slot loading DVD RW drive - No more disc trays and stupidly quick to boot! Sadly a little noisy.
-WiFi 802.11n - This bleeding edge WiFi can detect wireless networks over twice the range of the previous 802.11g. I was able to connect to the public wireless in the restaurant downstairs all the way from the staff room.
-Infra red remote control - Although the actual Apple remote is sold separately, you can have a tiny infra red remote controller that allows you to listen to much or watch videos without being anywhere near the computer. Just press menu on the controller, sit back, and relax to your favourite tunes.
-24-bit, 96KHz studio quality stereo audio built in. Need I say more?
-True colour, high gloss monitor. I can turn the monitor almost a full 90 degrees away from me with almost no loss of colour information.
-Superb cooling system. The laptop barely gets hot... heck, it barely gets warm!
-iLife '09 as standard. Everything from organising your photos to listening to music to even creating your own music with virtual instruments! iLife has it all.

TO SUMMARISE: A powerful notebook computer with so many features to keep you smiling every time you switch it on. With it's brilliant performance and solid build quality this little guy will last for years.
Despite only using DDR2 memory and the slot loading DVD drive being a bit noisy, I still give it five stars for it's superb quality and wide range of excellent features.

MacBooks are just a dream come true5
I am not a computer boffin and there are just a few things I am interested about:

1) reliability, my macbook is more than 2 years old and it performs exactly like the 1st day I bought it (actually better now with Leopard Snow OS).
2) durability: no comment see above
3) user friendliness: all Mac apps are user-oriented and it's child's play to operate them. However, the documents generated are so much more professional, precise in design and absolutely professional, compared to hesistant, complex and unreliable on my work windows based laptop.
Creating a network is plug and play and I am sorry for Windows fans but I have no interest whatsoever in becoming a computer engineer to operate a laptop and a wifi network and I m not interested in failures in DLL and why they messed up my laptop like all laptops I had before. it just should not happen, simple!
4) there is a range of software to do exactly what you want, from databases, email, contacts, you name it..
5) the support through Apple Care is simply exemplary... very helpful and just a one stop shop to solve your issue. heavenly actually!

I am rarely a very satisfied customer from a company but Apple does it for me and I guess their financial results just demonstrate why!. I would recommend a MacBook and I do recommend it to anyone who asks me.
Not biased, just had too many windows based laptop failing on me after just one year of usage: they collect all sort of junk from internet browsing and are just not secure.

It Isn't Worth It!!1
In short windows is cheaper, Way more universal, more down to earth and easier to upgrade and do fun things like play the latest games.

Macs are over priced, they are very exclusive as hardly any off the shelf products and software is designed for them, they are tarty and smug with style over function, don't kid yourself and buy a pc.

Oh and if you get viruses it's because you havent bought avg 9.

Face it macs are and always will be THE UNDERDOG, Microsoft have the monopoly because windows is obviously far better for home use and REAL world people OBVIOUSLY SEE THAT.
