Customer Reviews
A real, insightful resource on goal attainment.
I stumbled across this AUDIOBOOK by chance. I'm glad I did because there is the sense for me that the authors have a solid grasp of the real psychological factors behind goal attainment and the blocks to goal attainment. This to me is an insightful and thorough resource on beginning to understand why humans limit themselves and how they can go about making positive change.
I have read a fair amount around self development and whilst some may have been inspirational they can also leave me feeling a bit cheated through the regurgitation of basic psychological concepts (e.g. locus of control) into their own (often elaborate) plan. This, for my money, is 'the real deal'.
I would have give the Audiobook 5 stars but the track listing seems at odds with the tracks. The other thing that bothered me was that the two authors also played the roles of people in the case histories presented, I found this both confusing (I am easily confused) and uncreative.
Insightful and genuine
I feel this is an invaluable book for those who want to achieve their goals but, for whatever reason, get stuck somewhere along the line. There are numerous self-help books out there that seem to be about selling a concept and making inspirational promises that often are unrealistic or difficult to apply. This book doesn't try to do that and really gets down to the psychological nitty-gritty of achieving realistic goals.
The only thing that lets this book down slightly, in my opinion, is the fairly bland design and lack of illustrations. The plan for setting and monitoring goals is clear but I feel a diagrammatic presentation of this would help to internalize the process. Overall, however this is the most intelligent self-help book I have come across.
