Synopsis
"The Guerilla Guide to the Music Business" is chatty and informal, and it's full of useful, hard-earned advice telling you how to get ahead in the music business. Through interviews with industry experts in the US and the UK, "The Guerilla Guide" gives priceless tips on every aspect of gigging - from rehearsals to foreign tours. It takes you through the process of recording, from home-made demos to releasing your own finished product and radio promotion. "The Guerilla Guide to the Music Business" also explains what managers, publishers, PR people, accountants, and lawyers can do for you, and when and why you will need their services. It's a book that will help you enjoy what you do, avoid too many pitfalls, and maybe even help you have a hit or two along the way.

Customer Reviews

Good GENERAL info3
As an active semi-pro band member, gig-getter for my band and advisor to other bands on how to get gigs, I'm always on the look-out for useful sources of further information.

It's a substantial tome at c. 500 pages and covers a wide range of topics. Info includes sections for DJs, advice re office staff, business affairs, using an agent, chosing the right equipment, record deals, writing music for computer games etc. Good as an overview of the music business (which is, after all, implied in the book's title). However if you're struggling to get your band off the ground and want something focused on achieving some good regular gigs; it's not great.

USEFUL BUT BASIC3
The book itself is more geared towards being in a band and how to operate under a label. It does tell you parts from the label side but it is more about how you as a band would interact within a label. All information is useful in some ways but is very basic and really does not explore into any great depth on anything of substance. If you have no knowledge at all read if you want something more bypass and go for another choice

very very useful indeed!5
There are an awful lot of books I could have bought to get an over-view of the music industry and I am so glad I went for this one, as an aspiring record label 'owner' this has been really helpful in learning what i need to know - I'm sure there's a lot more to find out about specific areas but at least I know what they are now!!
