Post-Post Dance...
This is a gurgly, subtle affair that won't leap out and punch you repeatedly in the face in time to the beat of Billie Jean, but will gently tickle and occasionally pinch you in the ribs to the noise of Manitoba splashing about in the bath with a small Chilean boy. Ricardo Villalobos pulls apart the structures of house music like tender pieces of chicken, and feeds them to you teasingly by dangling them over your head, just out of reach. But when you eventually get one between your teeth it tastes fantastic, and you saviour it, and you chew it over, and you're hooked. 'Acachofa' is so ahead of its time it makes LCD Soundsystem sound like Cliff Richard's 'Devil Woman'. Opening track 'Easy Lee' is the most hypnotic rumble of broken-down beatronica to come out of Chile, well, clearly, ever.
It may be slightly difficult to digest all Ricardo's chicken pieces in one sitting, but you'll be able to if you suddenly decide you're an evil yet sophisticated Bond bad guy who needs a soundtrack to taking over the digital world. Yes, 'Alcochofa' IS that soundtrack.
