Editorial Reviews

Synopsis
This is the compelling and inspiring story of steam, from its earliest origins with developments of the GWR and Brunel's involvement in the creation of railways. "The Little Book of Steam" is written by Clive Groom, an ex British Rail driver and fireman. Though steam is no longer our main source of motive power it has lost none of its romance. How many of us have gazed longingly into the cab of a simmering engine as the crew prepare her for the journey ahead. Packaged together with a 110-minute DVD 'The History of Steam', this is a fantastic gift pack for steam enthusiasts.

Customer Reviews

What a bargain!4
I bought this at almost full price and think it is very good indeed. Both the book and the DVD are authoratative, yet easily digested. The book is printed on good quality paper, profusely illustrated and offers a joined-up history.Although there is a contents page, there is no index. The DVD is almost continuous footage of locos under steam, with about 95% of the footage being in England. There is some technical data included, but not much, which, together with no explanation of the controls as viewed from the footplate, are about the only omissions from an otherwise comprehensive package. Highly recommended.
