Synopsis
THE FAIRY TALE FILMS is an inspired collection of animated shorts by renowned director Lotte Reiniger (THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED), whose signature style incorporated black and white silhouette animation. Here she interprets classic myths and fairy tales--such as CINDERELLA, SLEEPING BEAUTY, and SNOW WHITE--in her own unique way. Striking visuals combine with charming narrations and soundtracks to capture the imaginations of children and adults alike.

Language options
The two oldest films ('Cinderella' from 1922 and 'The Death-Feigning Chinaman' 1928) have no soundtrack at all.
The 'younger' films have an English soundtrack.
All films have the option of English sub-titles.
A memory of Childhood
Lotte Reiniger is a name I remember from Children's Television a long time ago. I was enchanted then and continue to be so with this set of DVDs. The narration perhaps shows its age, but the magical black cut-out silhouettes cannot fail to charm, with their delicacy and precision. Stories such as the Golden Goose, and the Frog Prince, although well known, seem to be rather neglected nowadays and the sprightly animations bring a freshness, lightness and simplicity to these old tales which my grandchildren find delightful. The films showing Lotte Reiniger at work cutting and snipping were amazing - I could see a definite connection with Lauren Child's work eg Charlie and Lola. My seven-year-old granddaughter is inspired by both artists to get to work herself.
misadvertised
Was very hopeful to find something useful to show in German lessons in school (usually any films in German with English option/ subtitles are Cert.15) as it is advertised as German and English, but was very disappointed to find there was no German audio available at all.
