The Title Says It All!
These styles really are simple and stylish; there is a great scarf crocheted in Big Wool that is just 11 rows, add a fringe and you're done! Also a chunky beret that is 9 rounds, and should take about 2 hours.
There are also more complicated patterns, beautiful evening waistcoats,a sequinned top,and a gorgeous duffle coat, made in a denim yarn that will fade with time and look even better!
There is something for every occasion; a brilliant chenille cowl,2 wraps,2 ponchos,a boa,a frilled- edge cardigan and a very wearable shrug.I am really glad I bought this book,it is full of useful tips I had not heard of before, even though I have been crocheting for years. Some of the patterns would be a bit ambitious for you if you've never crocheted before, but they are all pretty easy and well explained. This book would be an ideal present for anyone who loves crochet, and comes highly recommended by me!
Wonderful patterns & instructions
The instructions in the book helped me learn to crochet. They are simple, to the point and accompanied by clear diagrams showing how the stitches are made. The patterns are easy to follow, and each has helpful hints and tips on how to make each project to the best of your ability. The techniques range from lace, to colourwork to basic one-piece garments and I am pleased to say that there is very little seaming required to finish the items you make. Most of the yarns refered to are easily available in the UK and the different properties of the yarns used really suit the look of the items that Melody has created.
This is the British version of So Simple Crochet, all the patterns are the same but the crochet terminology is British-style instead of American.
Simple maybe, stylish I think not
I've never quite grasped crochet and thought it was time I had another bash at it. I bought this and while at first I thought it was great in finally getting me started, once past the initial set of stitches I haven't found the instructions particularly clear. I think they jump from one step to the next too quickly.
This book shows all the techniques then launches into the patterns. Of the 24 projects in this book, less than half could be completed in a weekend - not good for gaining confidence. It doesn't help that I don't like more than five of the designs.
Sorry to be so negative, others don't agree with me, but I personally am looking for another book.
