Continuing the tradition of the bestselling Knitting On the Go series, this new entry features innovative patterns that crocheters of all skill levels will want to snap up and take everywhere. Well-known designers (including Sasha Kagan and Candi Jensen) have contributed their beautiful work to the collection, and the styles range from a simple kerchief-shaped shawl suitable for a beginner to popular motifs such as granny squares and florals to a more advanced shawl with interlocking circles. Theres also a Broomstick Lace Shawl in sky-blue alpaca silk, a Deco-Ribbon Antimacassar Shawl in tulip, a Chunky Bobble-icious Wrap, and a colourful Mondrian-inspired Shawl. Every one would make a perfect projectand a perfect gift.

Good solid addition to your library
Lots of good shawl designs in here - only negative is that the book is a little small (paperback novel size) so it is a little difficult to keep open while you're working on a design. Publisher take note - it is not practical to have this as a small hardback - it would have been better to be spiral bound. Otherwise you just have to photocopy the pages you need in advance.
Not for a beginner
This is pitched at being suitable for all skill levels but its not for a beginner. The shawls are rated from easy to hard - except there are no easy level scarves in the book. The basic directions are not easy to follow and it gives you little help to get started. That said once I got into it the scarves are very nice, quite wearable and modern enough to suit even the youngest reader. Its size makes it easy to slip into a handbag if you want to crochet out and about or even to take it with you when buying yarn. The yarns suggested are not easy to find in the UK - but thats not a fault of the book. Also UK buyers should be aware the crochet notation is the US version not the UK version. Overall a good book for those with an already good knowledge of how to crochet.
Good book
Includes patterns for 21 different shawls with difficulty rating from 1-4. There are actually no patterns rated 1, and only two rated 2 so beginners beware! Having said that, there is a section at the beginning of the book where basic notions of crochet are explained with diagrams. Of all the patterns, I would probably only make four or five of them, so it might be an idea to check out pictures of the projects first. On the whole it's a handy little book with good pictures and clear instructions.
