Synopsis
Not Vital is an internationally renowned Swiss artist who uses materials such as plaster, bronze, marble and metals. This book documents his architectural sculptures developed out of his love of both the Tuareg people - a nomadic tribe - and the country of Niger where he now lives. In Agadez, where he has been building since 2000, Vital has created, beside a garden in the oasis, a three storey house. Each floor, accessible only via an external staircase, points to a different direction on the compass - the house is simply for watching the sunset. In Not Vital's world, life and death are inextricably linked. His work celebrates life's transitions and lifts the western taboo linked with death. This book is published alongside an exhibition at Kunsthalle Bielefeld (March - June 2005) and Albion, London (June - August 2005) and includes fascinating photographs, plans and models.
