TOO american...3
A good book filled with plenty of information. Unfortunately it's just TOO American for me. If you're interested in reading about that ancient and noble breed the "American German Shepherd," all is well. If you live in any other part of the world, say Germany or Europe for instance, you'll find a large percentage of this book totally useless.

The general content is good, and the history section even manages to admit that the breed was conceived without US intervention. There's plenty of sound and sensible advice and a few comments to make you titter along the way. But if you're looking for breed standards, reference material or good old website links, then it's best to buy a book written on the other side of the Atlantic.

so true!!!4
I have to admit I bought this book as a joke to give my sister as she now has a 6 month old German Sheperd pup. But once I read a few of the pages, memories of my own dog from years ago came back. German sheperds unfortunately are assumed to be vicious because they are associated with guard dogs or police dogs, but treated and bred right they are mostly fantastic companions. They can be cowardly but are so eager to please and once encouraged will do anything for you. People should read this book BEFORE getting a dog like this as they have many needs - space, exercise, health problems and more - this book tell you of things you need to consider and look into. I truly enjoyed this book - has some funny moments but has quite helpful tips and advice for even an experienced owner.
