Spinning feelings5
RB describes himself on the cover as the father and cocreator of NLP. So, you may wonder how this latest ode to his love child compares with previous offerings.

Its so refreshing to read a book that explains how to do NLP in plain language.

As he says: "Its not a philosophy. Its not an ideology. Its not a religion. Its a toolbox."

As you get further into this book you will find exercises for many common life situations, including grief, taking tests, doing taxes, increasing desire, falling more in love, falling out of love, together with applications of well known processes such as the swish pattern, and the fast phobia model for traumatic memories.

Apparentl RB used to teach flirting. I would like to have seen him elaborate more on the flirting process, darn it.

I particularly liked his take on the fast phobia model.

Years ago Virginia Satir asked him what he thought the dominant instinct in human beings is. He replied 'Survival.' Her answer has stuck with him ever since.

This book shows RB's insight, followed by process and exercise which you can easily do yourself. Its easy to imagine referring to this book first to read RB's take on the situation first before reading another book or manual.

I would certainly recommend this as a first read for someone new or unfamiliar with NLP. If you're more interested in the Milton and Meta Model of communication, and already have trance experience, I would recommend Guide to Trance Formations.

I hope you find this review helpful.

NLP for everyone - at last!4
"Get the life you want" is a truly comprehensive practical NLP toolset in one book. It is a fabulous NLP Manual - it combines almost all the tools anyone could want to create lasting change - this is truly NLP Unplugged.

As a coach I get countless requests for a book that explains the how-to of NLP in plain language. This book is just that - truly a great leap away from the miriad of over intellectualised NLP books out there. It peels away all the mystery in the first few chapters and gets down to the practical end of NLP - execution and getting on with a great life.

Great read but shaky premises!4
I have been involved with NLP for over 20 years now. I was one of the first in the UK to become an NLP Practitioner in 1987. I have trained with Richard Bandler 3 times-twice in the UK and once in the USA. His work is brilliantly original and highly effective-BUT and there is a but! The basis of his work revolves around something called submodalities, these are the small building blocks of our internal images, words/sounds and feelings. However it is my belief that this reliance on the technology of submodalities limits how useful this book will be. In my opinion this book can help you to make fast and effective 'low level' change-stopping smoking, over eating, phobias. However if you are seeking a change of "being" I would look to explore fields which have a deeper structure like general semantics (GS). GS is a much broader system and in my opinion can help to change thinking at a more useful level. As Einstein said "you can't solve a problem with the same level of thinking that created it". A lot, though not all of NLP tries to do just that!
